This may qualify has sort of local football seeing as there are a number of Devon teams in it but it is strange to see Basingstoke Town rock bottom of this division with just 12 points from 19 games, some 13 points behind Willand Rovers. Basingstoke has a population of almost 90,000 people yet it can’t summon up a football team that’s any better than the village of Willand that has a co-op and a village hall where you can play short mat bowls and that’s about it.
It often intrigues me how towns or cities with massive populations have terrible football teams. I realise there is usually a bigger club on the doorstep (the population of Poole versus its terrible football team) or it may be a rugby town but it fascinates me all the same.
