I don't suppose anyone can help out Stuart can they, he is looking to work out what his first game was:
I’m trying to put a date on my first ever football match, and I think it’s one of two pre-season friendlies that were played at Plainmoor in the late 1970s/early 1980s. One was at home to Watford and one at home to West Brom. Brian Wilson played for United in the Watford one, which would date it as between 1979-1983, and I remember Ally Brown playing for WBA, which would put that game at 1983 or before.
I don’t suppose you or someone you know has a record of TUFC friendly games, by any chance?

Here you go: 03/08/1979 H v West Brom L 0 - 1 4,718 29/07/1980 H v Watford L 0 - 3 1,149

So would Brian Wilson have been playing for Torquay in 1979? I started watching Torquay in September 1979 and yet I feel I remember him signing for us. I think I always thought he signed around the same time as Gerry Fell but my memory must be playing tricks with me, as online it says he signed in 1979. I could probably solve this by going upstairs into the attic and rooting through programmes from that era but a job for later, maybe.

He signed in November 1979 to replace Albert Lamour who had just fractured his big toe. Wilson made his debut for Torquay at Tranmere on November 30th.

He signed in November 1979 to replace Albert Lamour who had just fractured his big toe. Wilson made his debut for Torquay at Tranmere on November 30th. That was the fantastic half-season immortalised in Budleigh's scrapbook where he charted our inevitable promotion until writing BUGGAR over it all in red felt-tip pen. We started the season with Larmour and Bourne at centre-back. Larmour was a good footballer but a bit slower, Bourne was a beast but a bit slow. Two decent players but not a decent pairing (plus ça change!). We brought in Jim Hagan on loan and looked like world beaters. If ever there was a case of "one player short of a promotion team" .... I remember staging a two man pitch invasion with a Sun-journalist-to-be after Hagan's last game to beg him to stay - but to no avail. Brian Wilson came in later as gullone says. A decent player but not a patch on Hagan.

So therefore, Brian Wilson wouldn’t have been with us for the Pre-season friendlies then?
