NL: Barrow v Torquay United 3pm 1 February 2020

Just watched the highlights, and I thought that we played pretty well up and down the field, just failing to get a decent final ball into the penalty area. It's a mystery why we can't beat the poorer teams if we are capable of that kind of performance. Barrow looked stronger physically, probably because they have a number of players who are very experienced and could do well at a higher level, and they look nailed on to get back into the Football League after all these years. Our own hopes of making the playoffs should not be dismissed just yet, as an eight point difference can reasonably be overcome. After all, this team is just as good, at least on paper, as the one which put together that winning run a few months back, the full backs being the most obvious and missed absentees.

One aspect of the modern game which I really detest is the mass rolling around on the ground in some clothed type of sexual orgy. Even mid-table teams seem to do this now, and I really do wonder what their motivation can be for doing it. Perhaps it is simply a way of demonstrating their commitment to the manager?

As Stanley Matthews once said, "We are all part of a team doing our jobs, so a handshake is all that is needed". Of course, wages in those days were only a fraction of what they are now, so perhaps that also explains these camera shots of footballers' backsides heaped on top of each other?
