Just posted On the torquayfans.com. Kalvin Kalala has been training with the club and is about to resign.
Whether there's any truth in this is another matter.
I can understand KK is not everyone's cup of tea but personally I would love to see him return and would make sense if he's still living in the area. GJ I'm pretty sure was disappointed when he didn't re-sign. The natural ability he possesses is extremely hard to come by at our level and he created and scored some cracking goals for us in his time here and on his day a fantastic entertainer.
For Garry to pick up decent players to bolster the squad at this time of year is a difficult task and I think this would make total sense as both parties know each other and whats required and would be another very decent body to have around.

Makes sense, Kalala never found himself another club and hopefully sacked his agent in the meantime! Although Andrews can play on the left and offers a particular skill set, he is not an out and out winger that you need to stretch defences which is something Kalala can do. Also unlikely that Nemane and Whitfield will be able to stay fit or play 90 minutes week in week out on heavier pitches throughout the rest of the season and we do need someone else either as a sub or to cover for injury and he fits the bill perfectly. link - if Sherring’s loan is not extended or Wynter has had a setback, how about Krystian Pearce to return to the side? A striker is possibly our main priority at the moment. Once again, a slight downturn in form has been accompanied by several injuries to the squad. Probably will not hear anythng until just before our next match knowing the way Johnson works.

When he was good he was very, very good; but he was bad he was just awful. Maybe he's learnt something in the interim and can turn himself around. That said I will take this with a little pinch of salt at the moment given that the post on the kiddies was by someone who had just joined the forum to make that one post.I

There are occasional games when a player struggles to get into it, and I always felt Billy Bodin had a tendency to either be Man of the Match or fairly anonymous, and rarely anything in between. But as Pete indicates, Kalala could give a whole new meaning to off days. If he had a day when he wasn't interested, then it really was like playing with 10 men. Yet there's no denying his immense natural skills with the ball, and when he was on song witnessing his performance was worth the admission money alone.
Prime example in my mind was always that April 2019 clash at Woking, when we were 3-1 down, and it had already reached the 76th minute before we withdrew the disinterested Kalala and put on a sub ..... suddenly it transformed the match into a proper 11 v 11 battle. We could put the pressure on, scored in the 80th minute, Gerring cracked under the onslaught and got sent off in the 86th minute, and we hit the equaliser to give us a 3-3 draw in the 90th minute. Another 10 minutes and we would have won it. We'd handicapped ourselves for the first 76 minutes, and what a transformation from the moment that was rectified and we had all 11 players committed to getting back into the game.
A exhibition match, a testimonial, even if he was in the opponents team I'd go along hoping to see the old talented Kalala, but unless it's guaranteed he's had a drastic change in mental approach as to the effort he's willing to commit to the cause, then I wouldn't take the gamble of re-signing him.

I’d agree with the various appraisals of Kalala and too would hope he has kicked his head-turning bullshit Agent into touch and grown up somewhat. He has ability. Gary Johnson is the only Manager I’m aware of who has brought out that ability, albeit at a lower level.
I would trust GJ to make the right call on his attitude and ability to fit into the current crop if indeed it is an option at all. I’d also trust GJ to show Kalala the exit door if he hadn’t learned from his mistakes and showed a laissez-faire approach to games where he is not getting things his way.
His best performances were against lesser sides than we are facing now. A short term prove yourself deal would likely work things out one way or the other.

Nothing confirmed but looks highly likely. Article here from Football Insider. www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-club-agree-to-sign-crystal-palace-striker/Well regarded at Palace and signed a pro contract in the summer so must have something about him. At just 19 he will undoubtedly be compared to our own starlet Olaf who I personally believe is not yet ready for the high tempo rigors of a competitive and very physical National league. GJ will move if he feels the need - no way will he willingly let our league advantage slip if he has the resources.

Of course the question has to be asked, why is our almost (a couple of months) 19 year old player not ready for the rigours of the National league when this other 19 year old player is? 🤔

We don’t know though. Players develop at different rates and career progression is never in a straight line. Look at Vardy for example, still playing for Stockbridge Park Steels in his early 20s. However, a player destined to be a future championship/premiership player more likely to be able to contribute at our level during his teens on his way up as opposed to a future league 2/National League player. Take our Danny Wright, did not transfer to Histon from Dereham Town until 2007 to help them win the conference south when 22? Koszela needs to be playing regular football and the fact that Johnson is happy to keep him suggests he has something about him.....

I am wondering if the Covid outbreak at Palace has delayed the Robert Street loan. Hopefully we will see him in a Torquay shirt soon. Looks like a good addition.

link - Bournemouth article on Sherring’s loan extension. I see that his loan expires on 10th January. Looks like Sherring’s and probably also Randell’s loans expire today so let’s hope there will be some good news on them staying until the end of the season. I see the Plymouth manager was making some very positive noises about Randell staying on recently in the Plymouth Herald - link Still no definitive news on our various injuries although the rumoured Rob Street signing indicates Wright might be out for a long time. Waters was briefly back at Yeovil and Nelson completed his operation just before the New Year. I have read elsewhere this type of op may see him back in training within a month and if so means he should be available to contribute later on this season. At least this 2 week mid season break has give Wynter a further chance to recover and maybe he will be available to play for part of the game against Boreham Wood on Saturday. Actually this game has come at a good time for us otherwise we would have had a 3 week break before playing Notts and Sutton in quick succession and need to be fully up to speed for those games. Finally, waiting for news on Little and Davis, quality players whose return would give Johnson more options and cover.
