Result: 4-0 Lawrence, Cooper(3) Attendance: I say 2805, History Book says 2722. Jon, please can we have an explanation of this again. Rothmans has 2,805 and that was the figure reported in the press at the time. However, the figures in the Centenary History are those registered with the Football League. When Leigh Edwards' Definitive TUFC book came out on the 90s, John Lovis and I were very sceptical about the attendance figures in it as they weren't what we remembered - noticeably the sub-1,000 gates in the Webb era. The data in Definitive was used for the Centenary History. I have an excellent book on attendances called "Through the Turnstiles" which draws its data direct from official Football League records. I have a spreadsheet with the data in the Official Centenary and can confirm that the home averages tally exactly to the official averages in "Through the Turnstiles, so Leigh Edwards' figures are indeed correct. Not totally sure why the figures reported at the time differ. Two probable variants are the treatment of complimentary tickets and treatment of season ticket holders who do not attend. One day I might get round to trying to put the "reported at the time" attendances into the spreadsheets to see how consistent the variances from official attendances are.
