I remember this game as Mansfield were going well and brought a large and noisy away contingent of fans. It was the first time I’d heard the chant “yell-ow, yell-ow” and Torquay fans quickly adopted it when we changed to yellow the following season after two years in W*bb’s awful blue.
Initially, I was struggling to recall Dave West in the Torquay line-up and then remembered he was the kid that went to Liverpool but never made the grade with his only league appearances being the handful he made for us before we released him as well.
The reserve team pictures were all kids, local lads I played against in the Pioneer League and a few I went to school with, whilst it is disturbing to think that in those remaining 14 games we only managed to get another 6 points.
