link - 5 English teams have signed up to a new breakaway pan European league. Whether it happens is another thing but certainty not a good thing for grassroots football.

And good f-ing riddance to them. The riches gained from the Premier League have distorted the national game. If this went ahead the Premier League would collapse because the TV companies won't pay billions without Liverpool et al. Then presumably the teams that are left will rejoin the Football League and we can see a return to the days of a truly competitive national game such as when the likes of Burnley, Ipswich, Derby and Nottm Forest could compete for the title alongside the big city clubs (who would presumably be Everton and West Ham this time round). Ok, so there will be less money in the domestic game but that can bring about a long needed correction and did the game of some of its parasites, such as the agents.

When this broke on Sunday morning I think most people assumed, understandably, that the 'Big Six' intended to leave the Premier League in order to compete in a pan-European league. Late on Sunday evening a statement was issued by the Super League stating that the club's would remain in their domestic leagues and compete in a mid-week European competition. This being the case I think we will now see the Premier League reaching an agreement that allows the big six to do what they please. What really matters to the Premier League is that Liverpool and Man Utd stay in the fold, otherwise broadcasters will not continue to pay what they are paying for coverage of the league. The Premier League and the proposed Super League are merely two sides of the same coin, the damage to football was done long ago by the pursuit of greed by the big clubs.

Looks like Chelsea blinked first. link - and the rest. With virtually total opposition to this looks like this idea is going to collapse but not sure how things will eventually play out,

link - think it is worth mentioning the fans protests at Man United as this is a direct consequence of the ESL proposals combined with the underlying anger at how the Glaziers have run the club. Not that the situation at that club is black and white as the Glaziers have constantly looked at increasing commercial revenue and reinvested a significant proportion back into the club with the ESL symptomatic of this. I think most commentators agree that the protests in the stadium overstepped the mark and may take some of the gloss off the goodwill for fans following the total rejection of the ESL proposal but will be interesting to see where the fans led review takes us.

You are right with your comments Rob rjd about most commentators stating the obvious that the demonstrators over stepped the mark. Nice to see it correctly reported, as just a few steps over to BTPR and you would think you had entered the headquarters of the demonstrators. You would find the actions being glorified. No mention of the many criminal offences committed or the police officers injured by the demonstrators (one seriously).
Thank goodness our club will never aspire to the Premier League. What a World! 😉⚽️

What a World! 😉⚽️ Merse does seem to have lost his moral compass of late. I notice you took particular umbrage of his use of a photo of the Peterloo memorial in the thread. A few days ago I thought he overstepped the mark by posting a headline with the word 'paedophile' above a picture of Boris Johnson even though the post itself made no reference to paedophilia, but no doubt he intended people to associate the two things in their mind. Don't get me wrong I'm no supporter of Johnson or the Tories in general, and in fact regard myself as left of centre, but immature student politics seems unseemly coming from an OAP. The violence was inexcusable, as it always is. Whenever there is a justifiable cause for peaceful protest there always seems to be a 'rent-a-mob' element who attach themselves to it. So called left-wing activists who seek to bring about change through physical force are no different to the Capitol Hill mob who tried to undermine the US presidential elections. We live in a democracy and change should come about through the ballot box. If the change we want doesn't come about it is because we are not winning the argument, then we need a better argument not violence.

Following on from this, you will see in the TUST section that there is an opportunity to join a zoom meeting on Tuesday evening with Malcolm Clark, football supporters association chairman and FA Council Member to discuss the fan led review that came about from all this with questions encouraged to be emailed by Monday..
Open to all fans whether TUST members or not and will be interesting to attend, even if just to lurk in the background or not.
