link - This has been set up by the football governing bodies in the campaign against online abuse against players and will take effect from 3pm Friday until the following Monday. Worthy campaign and think there are clear boundaries in society against abuse of someone’s colour, creed, gender and sexual orientation and how that translates on-line. As always, defining what constitutes abuse as opposed to criticism can be a fine line sometimes.....

...I remember the days when it wasn’t abuse or criticism, but merely a label.

...I remember the days when it wasn’t abuse or criticism, but merely a label. So how many people have looked at my post...quite a few? How many people understand/understood what I said...none! Not one person asked me what was I saying, even though they didn’t/still don’t have a clue! I will put up a post elsewhere later explaining why this happens. 🙂

Goodness knows what he is having to say about this topic. It's very tempting to find out by not logging in, but so far I have managed to resist that. You would think that by now he would realise that nobody is interested in his boorish comments and that he is now only entertaining himself.
As for this boycott, it never ceases to amaze me what the racist morons responsible can possibly be getting out of propagating their abuse. When these "social media platforms", as they are called, were first introduced some years ago, to me it was obvious that sooner or later things would be said which would be totally objectionable. Moreover, it beats me why anyone would want their comments or opinions to be viewed by the whole world, which I why I have never bothered with any of it. A forum like this should be perfectly adequate for the expression of views, and then of course there is always the telephone or e-mail.

I don't think social media is bad as such stewart but it can be. I am a member of Facebook but do not find it a problem. I joined to find out funeral arrangements for former work colleagues on a closed site. I am a member of several closed sites. It has controls that I am in charge of. It does of course give opportunities for individuals with anger management issues to behave like idiots, but FB ban or suspend lots of people every day and in the closed groups the admins have rules and kick out people themselves from those groups if the rules are breached. The admin of this forum can of course do the same.
It is not the social media that is the problem. It is people who have no self control or respect for anything.
Oh nearly forgot stewart, any news on the appeal yet? 😉

Oh nearly forgot stewart, any news on the appeal yet? 😉 Edit: I have now deleted this and will move it to the appropriate thread, as I'm sure people are fed up with reading about a trial in another country which has nothing to do with racial abuse here. Oh dear, you have replied while I was doing that. Never mind, we can pick it up there.

Thanks stewart I think I have spent too many hours in court to want to watch it on telly, but I can see how court proceedings are fascinating. I would have thought if there was going to be an appeal in the Chauvin case it would have been announced by now, but I haven't heard anything yet on news outlets.
