" Witnesses would take 'under oath' that PM said 'let bodies pile high'. Two witnesses who claim Boris Johnson did say he would rather have “bodies pile high in their thousands” than implement a third coronavirus lockdown are prepared to go public. Mr Johnson has denied saying the comment.
Johnson 'did make bodies pile high in their thousands comment', writes Peston". Source ITN News. Just MO but as BJ reels under waves of self-righteous PC outrage, led not least by the good 'ole whingeing Beeb, I feel a little sorry for him as his comment, (which he seems not to recall), is used to take him to the gallows - (oh God, should I have said that ? ) It is claimed that BJ said this after reluctantly agreeing to the second UK lockdown and he was apparently, somewhat agitated about that. Just MO but we should not pillory and exploit those under enormous pressure who let off steam with colourful but meaningful comments, in what should be private circumstances after all and which, if nothing else, point clearly to the passion felt for the point. One could guess, he didn't mean it, but it was his way of conveying effectively enough, the depth of his feeling. Whilst such agitation and candour would be inappropriate in some other contexts, myself I want People like that around, rather than bland bureaucrats who can get nothing done As for the cunning Cummings, a fine way to repay BJ's loyalty over the 'Barnard Castle' farce Time for a media feeding frenzy alert !

Yes swatcat it is absolutely astounding that with the current precarious social and economic situation the UK finds itself in brought about by brexit and a global pandemic, neither of which are over, all that is being talked about is the decoration of the Prime Minister's flat.
It beggars belief!

This isn't about PC wokeness as your thread title suggests. It's about a civil war on the Right of British politics. Cummings, who very deliberately kept a dossier on every little bit of dirt that he came across whilst in power, is trying to destabilise the government in the hope that when Tory MPs turn on johnson , he will be able to influence who the next leader (and PM) is and then resume whatever programme it was he was pursuing whilst in office the first time under the patronage of the new leader. Johnson is only paying for his folly whereby he chose Cummings to run the show because Johnson himself didn't have a clue. The flat business and the 'piles of dead' remark are just the opening potshots of a coming civil war. How Johnson must miss his most useful ally, the one person who made it easy for him to gain power, ie Jeremy Corbyn.

Partisanship in UK politics is certainly becoming more rife as the years pass, although still nowhere near as blatant as in the States.
I am certainly no fan of Johnson, in fact in my eyes he is nothing but an unkempt buffoon. However, I do wonder if Angela Rayner and others in the Labour hierarchy would be so outraged if Keir Starmer had refurbished his flat and hidden the source of the funds? This quest to gain political points has now become so tiresome and is tantamount to watching a scuffle at a primary school.

Why do some people always have to turn every conversation back to that?

Apologies stewart I mentioned brexit in the second post on the thread but I was not making a particular issue of it; brexit is a fact. It exists. I just put brexit and the global pandemic as being huge challenges faced by the UK at present. I think they are. 🍷

Why do some people always have to turn every conversation back to that? Isnt that why the Torys got elected in 2019? I seem to remember a slogan 'get brexit done' So is boris worth the price of brexit? What was the big issue with Corbyn? I remeber he wanted to throw money at the nhs and other public services like board band which of course would have bankrupted the country needlessly and on things which just wouldnt be needed in 2020. So is brexit worth the price of boris?

Frankly, I would be more interested in an investigation into who does his hair. I'm convinced that his girlfriend hacks at it with a pair of blunt shears.

I'm convinced that his girlfriend hacks at it with a pair of blunt shears. Think you might be right on that. I remember seeing a behind the scenes thing. He roughs it up himself (the hair not the girlfriend) just before hitting the cameras for that extra perma-dishevelled look.
