Don't know how we didn't win this one. Swansea had finished well behind us in the table and after a 2-1 defeat in the first leg I think most of us were confident. 2-1 very quickly became 4-1 on aggregate. Lee Sharpe came on as sub and we hauled ourselves back to 2-2 on the day with two goals from our full back. Just as it looked as though we could regroup at half time a lack of concentration in defence then allowed Swansea to go in 3-2 up on the day and 5-3 on aggregate.
Battered them second half. How we didn't score 3 or 4 I will never know, but we were restricted to one and that was it Swansea promoted with a 5-4 aggregate win.
Very down hearted after that one! As I mentioned yesterday my mate scored for Swansea. The sod! 😉⚽️

It was agonising watching it back, as I remembered it mind....and at least I knew the scorers from memory 33 years later....the you tube commentators couldn't even get it right at the time! 😉⚽️

So heartbroken after this game and probably only Leyton Orient 10 years later and Exeter a further 10 years on, compare.

Just had a couple of pints at the Imperial in Ivybridge with my mate who scored for Swansea in both legs. It did come up because timbo had featured the programmes. How we laughed! 😂🍺

Yes hector it is Sean he had a good play off campaign that year scoring in both legs against Rotherham in the semi-final and then both games against us in the final.
He has no coaching role at the moment Newport was his last but keeps his hand in with some local coaching and attends a lot of games (in normal times of course when games are actually happening!) as he is scouting for somebody, I have a feeling it is Brighton but would need to check that. ⚽️

Oh, so your mate is Sean McCarthy, I guess. Is he still involved in football? Well things move quickly in football. Further to my last reply hector it has now changed within the last couple of days. Sean is off to Bulgaria. Assistant Manager job at Pirin Blagoevrad who are in the top division in Bulgaria. At the same time he is moving his family home back to Wales so won't be seeing much of him in Devon in the future.

So how does something like that come about? Warren Feeney is manager there. They worked together as a management team at Newport and before that Feeney was a player at Argyle when McCarthy was coach.

Well he was asked if he fancied the job and said yes. Professional football is all about who you know and contacts. The manager at Pirin is Warren Feeney, who was a player at Argyle when Sean was coaching there and was also assistant manager at Newport County when Sean coached there about 4 years ago (indeed it was probably Feeney got him to go to Newport). Pirin has been promoted to the Bulgarian top division so I assume some extra staff has been authorised, so as normally happens in football Feeney has got in somebody he knows. Sean is a very pleasant level headed chap hope everyuthing goes well .....

Apologies Jon I was typing my reply to hector as you were posting which of course is the same as yours. With me being long winded and spending time editing the previous posts you got in first. Anyway I thought he was asking me!

Anyway I thought he was asking me! He was asking you Stefano but I rudely butted in. No manners. You actually know they answer whereas I guessed it from a quick google. At least it looks like I was more or less right which is a relief. At least I was ill -mannered but right rather than ill-mannered and wrong.
