We have had short-sighted owners. Gosling, Moore, Watkins, and now Key. How many millions would that have been?

Bateson, Jay was probably at the point where Bateson moved on and Paul Bristow took over without any academy to speak of. Certainly four excellent players who we could have benefitted considerably by developing... Sorry, I'll get back in me box...

Sorry, I'll get back in me box... Glad you’re not in your box Rags. Was starting to think you might be. Your Mrs must be enjoying her football. Quality Director at my last job was a Luton Town fan. My Mrs said - with no prompting from me - “What can he know about quality if he’s a Luton Town fan?”. I didn’t think she knew so much about football. 🙂

I didn’t know about Matt Jay but along with Jamie Reid, Torbay/South Devon has certainly produced a fair few players in recent years that would have been in our territory had we had a youth scheme.

Coincidentally I have just commented on this subject on BTPIR. Look out for Scott Piper who played for East Allington. He has signed pro and according to my neighbour who plays for East Allington, is a superb player, extremely skilful. Apparently impressed when he came on today. Think he is 18. Perhaps we have stemmed the terrible wastage this club has incurred over the recent years.

Apparently Key was on our books when Steve Breed etc shut the youth system down.

I've been going to games over the past couple of years whenever possible. Mrs Rags is indeed happy with The Hatters fortunes recently. They are quite an interesting club: well run by fans (though not by the trust), spending is strictly within budget, refusing sponsorship by betting companies, and with an intriguing new stadium plan which will be part-funded by a shopping/entertainment centre outside of the town.

I know what you mean about forums. I always recall Mervo's wrestling with pigs analogy. My ex work colleague was very pleased with how Luton has been run in recent years after previous disasters.
