Here we have the “cabinet reshuffle” with John Impey promoted from YDO to assistant manager. He would not stay assistant for long. Sick note Hay temporary YDO. We had to pay him anyway so may as well give him a job. Tommy Tynan still listed as player coach. Not sure he ever really was to be honest. Probably a title to justify a wage outside of the club’s wage structure. Russell Musker, who had quit as YDO to resume his playing career, was more involved in coaching than Tynan. Musker was effectively assistant to Impey after Smith left, but was left out in the cold in the summer when Impey brought in John Turner and Paul Compton. Tynan's player-coach role now removed from the programme and Musker's acknowledged at last. A nice easy management home debut game for John Impey. Aldershot were dreadful. They were able to battle Wrexham for last place safe in the knowledge that neither would go down as the Football League looked to expand from 92 to 94. Aldershot would be dead within the year, although many of us see the "new club" as a continuation of the old one. Shots' left back Leigh Cooper had played for Torquay in pre-season after his release from Argyle. I was certain he would sign for us and was surprised when he didn't. Not sure if we decided not to offer him a deal or if he decided to go to Aldershot instead. If the latter, it turned out to be a bad decision. Someone should have told him not to be a dummy.
