After a fortnight since the last game and actually three weeks since the win against Kings Lynn at Plainmoor, I am sure there will be a lot of interest in this game against bottom side Dover and I have got extra family members coming to this, including my son down fron Uni, courtesy of the free tickets for the season ticket renewal scheme.
Dover have certainly struggled, given a 12 point deduction for their shenanigans last season which actually cost us somewhat in our title race ambitions, they are yet to win this season with three draws, two of which were at home and scoreless with just the one point on the road with a 1-1 draw against Weymouth. Nevertheless, Dover will be desperate for their first win and I remember seeing a latest score flash up with them drawing 2-2 against Stockport before finally fading and losing 5-2 so like a wounded animal, not to be taken lightly.
If everyone is fit I think we have the basis of a very competitive squad but as discussed on the Armstrong thread, looks like Hall and Wright are still getting back up to speed while Armstrong is away on international duty. Despite this we still have better options than during a lot of this season and if Addai and Moore are able to start then think we will be in business. Thought O’Connell did well coming on a sub recently if one of them does tire and also Chiori Johnson did well out wide with an assist against Wrexham. Will be interesting to see if Johnson continues with a back three and wing backs or goes to a back four with Moxey and Wynter in their more traditional full back positions. Personally, I would prefer CLE to play in the hole behind the a striker with Johnson making a choice between Holman and Lolos up front.

My ideal front three lasted the whole of 17 minutes. One gone permanently, one temporarily.
Three steps forward and two steps back. Better than two steps forward and three steps back I suppose.
Would now go Lolos and Moore either side of Holman, Lemon in the hole ahead of Lapslie and Little. Not sure Moore will last 90 minutes, hope we don't overuse him.
Bench now looking a little thin again.
Should still have enough to beat Dover. Come on you Yellows.

No Lemon. Looks like 4-4-2 with O'Connell and Moore wide.

Looks like we got out of jail thanks to a 90th minute winner from Little. Hope the injury news is not too bad.Unbelievable how many injuries we have had in the last two seasons. Maybe we need two physios.

Pretty much demonstrates where we are at the moment. Inconsistent and lacking in depth of quality mainly up top. The news that CLE wasn't figuring today, the sudden disappearance of Addai who looked like he could answer a few of our problems and the absence of Armstrong filled me with little confidence going into todays game even though Dover are the very poor whipping boys of the division. Holman ineffective once again and its left to Little to win the game despite being poor for most of it and being booed after being named MOM. Pretty shameful inmho he has seven goals now so where would we be now without that input? How many goals have our forwards scored? Again no explaianation of why CLE Is out - expect there's been an offer from Wrexham - now would that surprise any of us? The injury situation is once again ruining our season all be it earlier and while we sit at a much lower level. Is it just bad luck ? You really do have to ask why so many log term injuries. So much missing from what we had last season the progress and quality has disappeared into the distance. Not giving up just yet despite the fortunate win though struggling for form like we did today is not a great sign going forward.

Well, we got there in the end after an unconvincing performance. The booing of Little when announced as MOTM was totally unwarranted and shameful. So pleased he answered those idiots with the winner.

Well, we got the win and the is the most important statistic today but in truth we looked a poor team who struggled against an even poorer Dover team. I shudder to think what would have happened had we played a half decent team today. You take out one or two key players like Lemonheigh-Evans and Armstrong and we look woefully short of quality. You could say we got out of jail today as we did not do enough to win again. Little's late winner just masked the lack of quality on show.
We got off to a nightmare start when Dover scored with their first attack with a pretty soft goal. A low cross came over on our right was put away and questions have to be asked about our defending. In the first half Torquay did try to play a patient passing game but a lot of it was hard viewing. When we did work ourselves into good positions typically our final pass didn't find our man or our shot was disappointing. O'Connell was one of our liveliest players and was typically part of our best moves. Let's be honest, he was the only one today who showed any pace. Thankfully Little equalised with a shot from outside the box. Little hit it well and cleanly low and hard and beat Dover's keeper's dive. In truth, their keeper made a meal of it diving too late and I think a decent keeper would have saved it but well done to Little making the keeper work.
This spurred Torquay to their best spell of the match. At last we started to play with a bit of confidence and moved the ball around well. Lolos, like O'Connell, was lively and put himself about well. Both players at least give their all, they might make mistakes as well but at least O'Connell and Lolos show good potential. Lolos had one decent effort on target well tipped over from their keeper and Torquay ended the half in the ascendency.
The truth is in the second half we never really got going again and our late winner saved our blushes. The second half was really a non-event. Torquay seem to resort too much on hit and hope and attacks typically just broke down. This gave the initiative for Dover to have a go. Dover had a few decent attacks and corners but luckily they didn't have a decent striker themselves to hurt us.
It's a sad state of affairs with all our constant injuries and half fit players giving their best shot. This was summed up in the second half. Moore looked to be struggling and was replaced by Johnson. Then a couple of minutes later Johnson sprinted for a ball and pulled up injured and was replaced himself! At least even a half fit Andrews offered a bit of quality and it was Andrews cross that led to our winner. Holman later pulled up injured and was replaced by Rogers. Sorry to say this but what a waste of space Holman is. He offers nothing, puts in very little effort and is merely a passenger. Holman has had one decent game at home this season against Wealdstone but the rest of the games I have seen he is anonymous and quite frankly a waste of space. He doesn't win headers, doesn't hold the ball up, doesn't beat his man, hasn't got pace. At least Waters and Boden showed some qualities last season.
Shortly before full time the sponsors MOTM was awarded to Little to a chorus of boos. Well let's just say I heard more boos than cheers. However, Little had the last laugh finishing well inside the box when a cross from Andrews fell to him. Well done, Little! He might not be great but he still showed today he is one of our better players and one of very few you can rely on to score.
It's a poor state of affairs sadly and this season has seen a big decline. Poor recruitment, endless injuries to deal with, playing unfit players and one look at our starting line up and bench today does not inspire you. At least Armstrong and Lemonheigh-Evans will strengthen the team when they return but the squad is painfully thin and lacking to get anywhere this season. This season has been a non event and on today's evidence I don't see much hope for the remainder of it. At least today's win keeps us away from the bottom pack but it was hard work and difficult viewing!
