Afternoon gentlemen and, of course, ladies. And how are we all? I haven't posted for a while after a jam-packed Christmas break so I thought I'd stop in and see how we all are. So what does 2009 bring for you on a personal, professional and sporting level? For me, I hope to end this year fully qualified and settled down in my chosen industry and I expect the Gulls to rectify last year's playoff heartbreak with a Wembley victory this time around. I would also like to think that United will become the first modern era Non-League team to win the FA Cup.* How about you? Happy New Year! *This may be a tad hopeful...

Well what does 2009 bring? I think I'll just have to wait and see, but there are a few things I really hope will happen. The first as you would expect concerns Carol, she has appointments that she has to attend this month, I hope she will be able to have a hospital free year as much as that will be possible and it goes without saying that I really hope the daily drugs she is on, helps back up the chemo treatment she has just recently finished.
Work wise, well after just moving into our new home, I really hope that we can start getting in more work than we are now, we need tradesmen out working, they won't be breaking any power tools etc, if they are not using them. Someone close to me has been put on part time in their job and are very worried, but I take the view that I will only worry if and when I was ever told that I no longer had a job.
Sport, goes without saying that all I want is for TUFC to bet back into the football league, no other sporting event really matters to much to me.

Dave, I think you can safely assume that everyone who reads this forum has their fingers crossed for Carol. Send our best wishes. I don't think anyone else has many high hopes for 2009...

Well on a personal level I'm hoping the issues my Dad has with his knee are all sorted out by his op in a couple of weeks time and he can get back to Plainmoor so he stops banging on about the commentary on Radio Devon... And obviously health and happiness to all friends and family. I'd also like to see a bit more of this fantastic United side, something that work (and the recent big freeze!) has prevented so far this season.
On a professional level I'm looking at my impending redundancy as a fantastic opportunity and hope and expect to be in a better and more fulfiiling job by the late spring/early summer.
And on a sporting level, the last day of the season to be a reverse Barnet where winner takes all to get in the league and the home side wins. England winning the ashes again would be a nice bonus.

yorkgull, best wishes to your dad and I hope the op goes well and hie recovery is smooth and fast. Have to say what a great positive attitude you have, not many would see a impending redundancy as a fantastic opportunity. I wish you all the best in finding the job that in your words will be a better and more fulfilling one.

so he stops banging on about the commentary on Radio Devon... That bit made me smile. Good to hear you're so upbeat YG. Good call for the Ashes. Although England and Australia seem to be in disarray at the moment so it could be a very interesting one.

I think the reason I'm so positive is that I've had nearly 10 years in the one company / industry so I'm looking forward to getting out of it. That and getting a few quid in a redundancy payment...
I expect Australia to beat us in this ashes series. There is no way that Ponting is going to play out of form players (Gillespie) and their frontline pace bowler will injury himself in a bizarre accident (McGrath). Brett Lee will soon get over his heartache, Mitchell Johnson is bowling as well as anyone in the world and Stuart Clark is likely to be fit, if Shaun Tait can sort his head that's not a bad bowling attack - on the other hand their spinning options are limited. Our middle order is unlikely to include our best player while he rams both feet down his throat every time he opens his gob!
They've lost to the 2 most progressive test sides in the world (as have we) - that's no crisis.
