Our previous match in the Christmas recess still grates somewhat after we were unable to put the game to bed by half-time and then ran out of steam in the second half due to the disadvantage of having played two days previously while Eastleigh were still digesting their Christmas pudding. Eastleigh have been a bogey team for us over recent years so it was a bit of a relief to finally get the home win against them at the end of last season, something we need to repeat to keep the pressure on the teams above us.
Our form cannot be more different with Eastleigh winning one and losing five of the last six while we turn that on its head with just one loss and five wins and are now actually at the top of the form table along with Stockport in the last six. Whether this surge has come too late or can even be maintained remains to be seen. We do need to keep key players fit so it was good to see that even with Wearne and Lapslie out on Saturday that Hall and Johnson were able to come in and play their part. If Lapslie is fit for this then all well and good but would rather he is rested for next Saturday’s crunch match.
Should be a very good crowd not least as a 1000 community tickets have been given away and assume they will be cheering the side on in the away end. Cannot see too many Eastleigh supporters turning up but would still hope for a crowd of over 4000 to cheer the team on. COYY

Looking forward to this afternoon.
Disappointed that Hall and Wright were needed for ninety minutes on Friday.
Hope Lapslie is back and if so Hall may start on the bench.
A big ask of Wright to give us another 70 minutes or so.
Good that Edwards got a run out as he gives us another option. Would be nice to have Wearne back too. We might have to start leaving out players who don’t deserve to be left out!
Need a win and need King’s Lynn to do us a favour to ramp up the pressure on Grimsby on Saturday.

The word "formality" is a dangerous one. How often have we been in these positions and blown it? I don't think Eastleigh will be wanting to roll over and will be up for it as underdogs they have a fair share of decent players including ex Gull loanee Danny Hollands. No Halstead agian today, has he left the buildibg? and a certain Matt Wonnacott is named on the bench as substitute keeper. No Lapslie either and asking a lot for Hall to put in another 90 minutes. Johnson also missing and replaced by Keelan O'connell who need sto prove his worth soon to stand a chance of being retained. Most of us realise the massive odds against us making the play offs so whatever the result its been a great ride so far and stranger things have happened.

Johnson out. No Lapslie or Wearne. Surprised O'Connell gets the nod over Edwards. I guess O'Connell will be on the left if we go 4-2-3-1 and on the right if we go 3-5-2.
Kid keeper on the bench better than no keeper on the bench.

TUFC - Too many players having off days (Wints for one), couple with wanting a touch to much of the ball.
Eastleigh - What a horrid team, wasting time and feigning injury from minute one.
Officials - Must get the award for the worst ref this season. Didn't have a clue.
22/23 - Lets hope for a decent rebuild for next season.

Compared to recent games it certainly was a subpar performance. Probably missed Låpslie and Wearne but nevertheless got off to a uncharacteristically slow start and then when we did start to create chances our clinical edge was lost and it was a bit like earlier in the season.
Duke McKenna was deservedly man of the match, set up two lovely chances on the plate, CLE had a free header in the first half which inexplicably went wide from the middle of the 6 yard box. In the second half, a lovely pullback for Asa who was well within the penalty area and unmarked pulled his shot wide. His skill at times was enough to dump the defender on their ass as he twisted and turned. It had the feel of one of those frustrating days where nothing came out of our chances and to be fair we could well have conceded with Eastleigh hitting the crossbar and forcing a couple of very good saves from McDonald when they broke clear.
Eastleigh are a horrible side constantly feigning injury which the ref let them get away with and our poor return against them continues…..

More in-match shape shifting.
When Moxey went off - very relieved that seems not as serious as I feared at the time - we went to 4-2-3-1.
Martin went to orthodox left back with Duke-McKenna pulling out left in front of him and Wynter went to orthodox right back with O’Connell in front of him. When Lolos replaced O’Connell it was a straight swap. Shame, as I feel Lolos is more effective through the middle than wide right.
Before the game, I was surprised at how few fans Eastleigh brought. By the end, I was amazed at how many they brought. Who would travel to watch that nonsense? I think it was Shankly who said “ If they were playing in my back garden, I’d draw the curtains”. Or was it one of Wilde’s?
We all expect a bit of “game management” these days, but abusing the head injury protocol really gets my goat. I accept that if you stop match a million times to stop one death or serious injury, then it is the right thing to do. But it is also carte blanche for cheats.
I would like to see players suffering head injuries having to sit out three minutes to recover. Mind you, Monday’s match would have been abandoned with Eastleigh having nobody left on the pitch. Or maybe their 87 imaginary head injuries would not have happened.
Of course, you have to score early against purveyors of anti-football like Eastleigh. If you don’t, you will struggle to get any momentum going due to the constant stoppages.
