Slight increase in quality of opposition with Exmouth in the Southern League Division 1 but still all about match fitness at this stage as we build up to league quality opposition next week. Hopefully a few of the injured players will be available together with the odd signing or two. Exmouth are of course managed by Kevin Hill which may attract a few extra gulls on a Tuesday evening.

Really looking forward to this one, after having to miss the Buckland game. Hope we get to see Marshall, Hanson and Jarvis fit enough to play. How many of the four trialists will get another run? Will there be any more? What are the odds Kevin Hill sticks himself on for the last ten minutes? Played Southern Premier this February just before his 46th birthday : tivvyarchive.co.uk/squad.php?id=4094

Half time 0-0. Attendance 692.
Two unknowns. Big bloke (no. 19) playing alongside McGavin centre midfield looks like his twin. Smaller bloke ( no. 7) playing between the middle two and the front two.
3-5-2 with Lovett in goal and Day left wing back.

Another good workout with the players get getting some extra much time into their legs. Trialist C did his prospects no harm with 2 assists very late on. Again McGavin stood out with some very good intelligent passing. Ross Marshall was very vocal in defence. Crowe and Evans showed glimpses of good play. Koszela worked hard and did well. The keeper got taken out once and each half were collecting the ball in the air will be sore this morning. Made the cardinal mistake of picking up a back pass and conceding an indirect free kick in the area thankfully to the side of the goal. Youngsters did very well when they came on and worth keeping an eye on some of them.

link - Marcus Day signs for Bristol Manor Farm again. Too inconsistent with his crossing last night.

A few quick thoughts before it is too late. My first game of the season after I failed a fitness test for Buckland.
It must be a nightmare looking after a pitch when the weather is so dry and so hot. Manageable if you have a decent budget and a full-time groundsman, but no surprise that Exmouth's pitch was rock hard. Not the worst one I have seen in my Devon Bowl chasing, but not one that made it easy to play football.
Kevin Hill just exudes energy and enthusiasm. He made me laugh a couple of times as he went to chase after balls kicked out. He stood next to the fence and just sprang up in the air and over in one bound. How does he do that? You just knew he was itching to come on for the last five minutes. The word legend is much overused, but....
Exmouth wore very dark blue. The ref wore black. A few shouts of "change your kit ref!". They had a point.
Given the state of pitch and that we are early in pre-season, would not get too carried away on good points and bad points, but you just know I am going to bang on about shape.
A nicely balanced 3-5-2. Would not be at all surprised if that is our formation of choice this season, although I am sure we will mix and match a little during the season.
Must go, Plainmoor is calling!
