Brilliant stuff Gullone! What was a second division club doing in round 1? Newport had been promoted in 1939, but the FA gave their bye to Round 3 to local rivals Cardiff who were in Division 3 South!
We lost this 0-1 in front of a 4,000 crowd, but were still in with a chance as this was the only season the Cup was played over to legs. We went on to draw 1-1 at Newport, going out on aggregate.
Our lineup was as per programme. Frank McDonough's family posted on here recently.
James Williams was a Paignton amateur. Bryn Lewis, NOT Dennis, had a trial with us before the war and had played for Rochdale and for Newry in Northern Ireland.
Mention of the Colts. They beat Galmpton but were thrown out for fielding an ineligible player and folded mid-season. A longer lasting attempt at a Colts / A team would have to wait until 1952.
