What a debut from Williams! And a not too shabby hatrick as well. It was a shame it never quite went as planned and Hartlepool ended up seeing the better of him.

What a debut from Williams! And a not too shabby hatrick as well. It was a shame it never quite went as planned and Hartlepool ended up seeing the better of him. When there was speculation regarding Tony Lee at Poole I immediately thought of Eiffion Williams, a goal scoring phenomenon from Barry Town. In retrospect his spell with us is quite comparable with that at Hartlepool. He scored 24 times in 107 league games for us, a rate of 0.22 goals per match. At Hartlepool he scored 50 times in 208 league games, a very similar fate of 0.24 goals per match. I think the impression that he did better in the North East comes from the fact he played in a very successful Hartlepool team, in fact the most successful in their history. It is indeed ironic that his stunning debut was against Hartlepool. |
