After watching both the men and women over the weekend and seeing an astonishing 15 goals, we go again with an away relatively short Tuesday night trip to Eastleigh. On the suspension front, we lose Marshall but have the welcome return of De Silva. We did not appear to pick up any new injuries but are still woefully short unable to field any strikers / wingers on the bench. Hopefully Halstead is close to coming back.

More loan signings on the way hopefully.

We always seem to play Eastleigh on a Tuesday night and we always seem to lose. I don’t see anything changing tomorrow evening. A defence with Omar and Lovett in goal is a recipe for disaster at this level and that’s without the other reasons for frailty at the back.
Thinking back to the teams we were fielding under Nicholson and Owers and wondering if they were worse/no worse etc? To be honest, I struggle to remember a lot of the players from that era but that era seemed horrific but in reality probably not much worse than we are seeing now. Would revisionists be a bit kinder to Nicholson in that he avoided relegation for two seasons with a lot less in terms of resources?

Halstead in for Lovett and De Silva in for Marshall. Could keep the 4-2-3-1 formation with De Silva taking Donnellan's wide right role and Donnellan moving to centre-back. Or could be a back three with De Silva at left-wing-back, Moxey and Goodwin playing more centrally. What minute Lapslie on for Hall and will Hall be surprised?

Sounds like back three with De Silva on the left.

1-0 down and yet another red card. Jarvis this time.
Only one striker available for Saturday now.

Smith off, Lapslie on.
Guess Smith is injured - or it would be very surprising to take him off.
I suppose we can move Donnellan into midfield if Hall does not last the ninety.
I would not want to go to Notts County without Hall if we overplay him today.

Gritts very complimentary about our players - and I do respect his opinion.
A loss is a loss whichever way you look at it though.
Moxey off injured, Hall had to play ninety minutes and Lapslie 45. We desperately need at least two of those on Saturday if we are to avoid a very big thrashing.
Even if all fit, we only seem to have 14 players. Surely we need reinforcements.

Where do we go from here?
The usual suspects are clamouring for the head of the manager but who would do any better with such a paper thin and lightweight squad? I’m resigned to relegation now. I just cannot see us overhauling four other teams as it feels as though we are going to get a lot worse before things get better.
I suspect the core of our squad would probably do rather well at NLS level and it may take a drop to bounce back better but whichever way it goes, I think the story of the season is set.
Even if a new manager came in and even if they get to sign new players, I don’t see it changing. A high turnover of players nearly always tends to end in further struggle and I think the best bet is to add gradually to what we have. But currently, who would want to come to Torquay? Other than some young loanees? And to be frank that’s not what we need.
I’m finding that I’m starting to look at NLS to see that probably the biggest team in it (Ebbsfleet) are currently walking it (so that’s them out of the way) but we are likely to be relegated with Yeovil and Maidstone so three “big” teams in the NLS next season and only two could go back up which is what then makes the mockery of the current system that not all relegated clubs can come back up if too many other sides with geographical similarities also get relegated. Therefore, if we can’t get out of it, we need to hope that Yeovil and Maidstone do.
Ideally, we’ll be relegated with Scunthorpe, Gateshead and Halifax.
