There were eight National League relegation battlers in the last 16 of the FA Trophy.
One theory was get out quick and concentrate on the league.
The other theory was use the Trophy to gain confidence and a winning habit.
Gateshead and Halifax took the latter route. Both now safe on 52 points and looking forward to a nice trip to Wembley.
Of the six who bailed out of the Trophy, Maidstone are long gone. We are favourites to join them. Aldershot, Dorking, Maidenhead and York are the four teams we still have a hope of catching.

Note to Self: If the Torquay team aren’t trying hard enough in The Grail then contact them.
Note to TUFC: We need the corner flags replacing and the money we would get from winning The Grail would pay for one of them…so buck your ideas up.
Note to Nurse: If I ever do contact TUFC and ask them to buck their ideas up in a competition that I look upon as the biggest pile of shit on the planet, and certainly equal to a Brontosaurus having a dump, please feel free to double my medication.
Note to Jon: La.

This is a thread that cries out for more activity so here is the prize fund for this season's competition. The draw is tomorrow, 7th July. Round | Winning Club | Losing Club | First Round Qualifying | £1,500 | £400 | Second Round Qualifying | £2,250 | £575 | Third Round Qualifying | £2,450 | £625 | First Round Proper | £3,000 | £775 | Second Round Proper | £3,750 | £1,000 | Third Round Proper | £4,500 | £1,250 | Fourth Round Proper | £5,250 | £1,500 | Fifth Round Proper | £6,000 | £1,750 | Quarter Final | £7,500 | £2,000 | Semi Final | £15,000 | £5,000 | Final | £60,000 | £30,000 |
So we will receive £1,000 if we were to lose our opening Trophy match. That's not likely, is it?

It certainly does cry out for more activity…but I was thinking more in the lines of an 81mm Mortar!

Well, yes, we've now got the opportunity to lose at home to Yeovil's first and, as they have such a large squad, second teams with just a few days gap in which to lick our wounds.

As we move swiftly through this competition an exciting away day at Frome Town beckons. link - Johnson reaction. And £5k better off. That's the £2.75k for beating Yeovil plus the £1.25k guaranteed for playing Frome, and a further £4.75k if we beat Frome (£4.5k for winning plus £1.5k for appearing in 4th round). Or put another way: 2nd round: beating Yeovil gives us £3,750 (Total £3,750)3rd round: losing to Frome gives us £1,250 (Total £5,000), beating Frome gives us £4,500 (Total £8,250)4th round: losing to Team X give us £1,500 (Total £9,750)By comparison, 542 fans in the Pop Side pay £9,765 to get in @ £18 each. Not much prize money, is it?

No, it’s not much at all, but Frome game is on a weekend we may have had no game if we hadn’t beaten Yeovil, so it’s likely better than nowt. Reckon we all would rather finish 7th and not win the competition than finish 8th and win it, though. Would hope we can target 2nd or 3rd home play off semis when it becomes obvious (perhaps already is) that Yeovil are going to win the League.

Not much prize money, is it? You would need another 108 fans to pay the VATman. Everything is relative. That money means a lot more to Frome than it does to us. In the same way, last year’s FA Cup money meant a lot more to us than it did to Derby. Manchester City would not have bothered banking the cheque. Something is better than nothing. Helps make up for the money we throw away by actively discouraging casual pay-on-the-day support.

link - another away draw, this time to Hereford, a team we have played many times. On the contrary I don't think we have played Hereford FC at all in the past. I'm of the opinion that once a football club folds that it is it, it is over. I'd feel the same if the same thing happened to Torquay United.
