PSF: Pucklechurch Sports v Torquay United 2pm 30/07/23

We were up in Somerset this weekend, so thought that we would drop in but due to some horrendous traffic didn’t get to the game until the end of the first half when the score was 1-1.

In thr second, Pucklechurch scored early on from a free kick that was allowed to bounce in the penalty area and went through everyone! Torquay were still not at their best but they did seem to grow stronger as the second half went on and managed to win the game in the last 10 minutes.

Tracey Cross, now captain had a few speculative shots but eventually got the ball on the edge of the area and fired in a low shot to the left of the goal and on a very wet and greasy surface was always going to be difficult to keep out.

In the last couple of minutes, Jana Richards, playing in a more forward role on the left of a front three, got on the end of a through ball and knocked it towards the penalty spot but the covering defender and keeper slid right into her and for the second time in a few months there was a Torquay player screaming on the pitch in agony. Looked like her ankle was badly hurt and had to be carried off the pitch to the changing rooms. Wish her a full and speedy recovery and hopefully it is not as bad as it first seems.

From the resulting penalty Danni Wyatt stepped up to confidently knock the ball home for another win.
