link - the women will play their first game of 2024 tomorrow after their extended Christmas break desperately needing a win which would hopefully get them out of the relegation zone. With a bit of luck all those injuries will have cleared up but those three with ACLs will of course still be out. Playing at Wall Park Road tomorrow so a bit of a trip.

Abingdon looked a good strong side and seem to be cantering to victory at half time leading 4 –1. However, they seemingly tried to self-destruct in the second half, after around 10 minutes with one of their players starting a mass brawl which I haven’t seen in the women’s game before and the net result was that one of their players was sent off. This gave much needed impetus back to the Torquay side who got a goal back shortly after with some good work from Tracey Cross, who was able to take the ball away from the keeper with the ball, coming back to the edge of the area for Salter to fire home. Abingdon, then re-organized and it became harder for Torquay to get through although a need less on on Danni Wyatt, miles away from the action was picked up by the Lino, which saw another straight red. Surely with 11 versus 9 Torquay could have given it a good go in the last 15 minutes but they spurned this opportunity unable to stretch play enough to make their numerical advantage count creating few opportunities which were generally of poor quality giving Abingdon a get out of jail free card. The result of this is that Steve Elwood, the promotion manager from last year has now resigned from this position with the club looking for fresh blood……l link - TUFC match report.
