A very quick turnaround for the bank holiday game with Chesham, who had the advantage of only having to travel to local rivals Saint Albans about half an hour away on Saturday. I understand that the squad are traveling up today to beat the bank holiday traffic and Wooton will assess the fitness of the players come Monday morning.
If Carson does not recover from his knock then Wotton has the choice of starting with Tonks on the left or pushing Foulston out wide and bringing in Moxey to make his debut this season. After walking past him on Saturday, suspect Dyer won’t be back anytime soon, but Palmer has been a revelation since coming in, scoring against Bath on Tuesday and very nearly doing it again yesterday and is a big threat on set pieces.
We last travelled to this ground in December 2020 playing them in the FA trophy third round and winning 1-0 courtesy of a Josh Umerah goal. Think our only remaining player from that game is Dean Moxey.

Woh nothing like an extra time winner is there but generally showed up a few shortcomings that we need to work on. In possession we look great and pass the ball beautifully at times but the last third we need more threat from the front men and perhaps some more physicality if were to maintain our challenge at the top. Love mussa but you can clearly see why hes with us . Hugely talented on the ball but lost possession twice in in quick succession inv ery dangerous areas that could easily have cost us and lacks pace.chesham looked dangerous and came alive when they attacked but lacked the finishing quality. Cant complain, another three points on the road but i can see there's still work to do .

Another good result and seems we have a bunch of winners that can get a result when not on song. Away for a few days so only was able to pick up the score every now and then! Might have mentioned that about Mussa before. Whether still because he is not fully fit or something he needs to work on not quite sure. There is a good player in there though. So the gulls lined up as I suspected it would but after three minutes, Mussa was dispossessed, a trait noted in preseason and from there Enfield were able to break down the left deliverying a perfect cross and a glancing header to see the ball nestling inside the far post to the delight of the traveling support and to the shock of everyone else at Plainmoor.

I am very impressed with Paul Wotton's post-match comments, not just this game but most of the others.
I've noticed some criticism of the players, and some suggestions of strengthening required, on other forums but it is Wotton who is stating the reality. We have a very young squad, thrown together relatively recently, with plenty of work required and plenty of mistakes still in them. We are not a very good team, but we could be by the end of the season. Wotton knows our weaknesses: he knew them before today's game just as well as he knows them now. Many of the players are not fit enough to play two hard matches in 72 hours, neither do they have the skill to match the better teams in this league. But they do work very hard and as Wotton himself said after one of the games (possibly Farnborough?): if you work hard good things can happen in games at this level.
I'm amazed that we are 2nd with four wins from five games. If we were 17th with five points from five games I would be very happy having listened to Wotton's comments because I have faith he can improve this team considerably. That we are in second place with two home games to come against sides with one win combined so far this season bodes very well for the short-term. Of course anything can happen in those games. We could lose our next three in a row. But that doesn't really matter to me at the moment.
Paul Wotton knows what needs to be improved, and I really do believe he will enable that improvement. I'm enjoying the wins, but really all I am hoping for is a play-off place at the end of April on the back of a strong run that demonstrates we are a match for any team in this league. Anything more is a bonus.
