this thread is purely about the standard of ref's and linesmen ,iam quite well aware we concended a couple of poor goals tonight.
my point is you had two teams go out there and play an honest game of football wrecked ,by a ref and a lines man on the popside who where simply guessing did not have a clue between them.
the ball went of a forest green player no torquay player with in a yard throw in given to forest green ,danny stevens picked the ball clearly before it had crossed the line throw in given to torquay,i wont pregnant dog about the penalty seen them given ,and some ref's not ,the offside goal lino went to put his flag up stopped thought and then did the guy did not have a clue Wether it was offside or not .
please feel free to tell me if iam wrong ,i feel we should not have to put up with this any more.

The only problem with your argument is that if these incompetent "officials" didn't turn up, there would be no matches at all.
If you think we should not put up with poor officials any more, what do you suggest that we do about it ?
There was a lot more to the result and performance tonight than that.

There was a lot more to the result and performance tonight than that. please read what i have said ,iam quite well aware that the fact we have only 1 point is down to us . and totaly agree with you about if ref's did not turn up who would ref . on the whole i have no argument about most of the ref's they will make mistakes ,and can not get everything right which i would not expect then to do. what has angered me is i saw a ref and 1 lino guess more than once and for both teams not just torquay ,to make this balanced the lino was no more than 1 yard away when danny stevens picked up the ball before it crossed the line it was hand ball how could he give us a throw in,he was 2 yards away when the ball clearly went off not 1 but 2 forest green players how could it be a goal kick. what would i do weed out these incompentant officials and let the good ones carry on and their is a lot of good ref's out their . this is professoinal football with alot at stake ,and paying fans that dont deserve to see a match wrecked by a total idiot

forevertufc, I think we have now excepted that the ref's and linesmen in the BSP are mostly of a very poor standard. Yes they got things wrong tonight and yes the ref was very weak at times and should have got his card out and shown it to the FGR keeper early in the game, it would have put a stop to his time wasting.
As Steward said, we can't have games without them I'm afraid its swings and roundabouts anyway, we get bad decisions given for us and against us and the best we can hope is it all evens out during the season.
I'm not going soft here, but I listened to some of the worst abuse I have ever heard, directed at the linesman tonight, OK he got some things wrong, but he was no worse than many others I have seen. I stood there thinking that he was just a young man who wanted to be a linesman and then maybe move on to be a ref.
He must do it because he likes football and I wonder how he went home feeling tonight. He never came to our ground to cheat, to help FRG win the game, he was guilty of getting some things wrong that you will see Refs on the TV in top fight games get wrong. We need more refs and linesmen at all levels of the game and its no wonder its getting harder to get people to want to do it.
No good saying well they would not get stick if they got it right, show me one at any level who always gets it all right and I'll buy you a pint. ;D

Maybe if they were not so bad people wouldn't them so give so much stick !!
I have seen some atrocious officials in my time but that display tonight was up there in the top .....oh ...er...one I would say !!
Apparently he has said that he will be reporting the club because he felt "intimidated " and that he could see no fault at all in his performance. Yeah right.... That was his the reaction when a supporter who is known to all ( his legs must have been cold before Christmas !!!) had a post match conversation with him. If he is "intimidated " at Plainmoor then God help him if he ever officiates with another performance like that at Milwall !!
Why do refs think that they are so above it all that they can do what they like and not be questioned ? Why cant they attempt to explain their decisions to the paying public ?
We all make mistakes but that was just ridiculous tonight.

If he is "intimidated " at Plainmoor then God help him if he ever officiates with another performance like that at Milwall !! I only followed the game on the radio commentary tonight and first of all would like to give credit to BBC Devon's commentator Alan Richardson and summariser Chris Fleet for a professional job well done with NO technical hitches! This was the same referee I saw handle the Ebbsfleet and Burton game last week so well. By the accounts of the commentators and several fans on here he went to pieces tonight, is he blaming "intimidation" then? Oh deary, deary me. Before launching into another "the refs in this league are awful" tirade, we have to take on board that we are playing in the fifth tier of football in the BSP and yet are being handled by the third tier of match officials..........................so it could be a lot worse folks! From personal experience I can tell you the further up the football ladder one officiates, the more pressure and "intimidation" one experiences. The biggest step is when moving into semi professional football from amateur football and believe me that is the making or breaking of many a ref. Professionals simply ask for everything and never stop pressurising you and it is all part of the learning curve learning to deal with this and those who simply can't fall by the wayside. Presumably Mr Creighton and his assistants (who themselves would be referees at Western League level) have experience of being pressurised and "intimidated" before now and the only way I would be concerned by such a statement by a match official was that if he were intimating (different word here Dave! ) that he felt intimidated as he left the pitch due to the incompetence of the stewards. If match officials admit to being "intimidated" by either players, management or spectators at BSP level they want to have a long hard think about just what in their performances lead to that situation arising. That is part of the "Respect" programme they want to apply to themselves for after all they should hold the game itself in enough respect to want to perform to their optimum level. Having said all that...................believe me I have seen some unbelievable refereeing and lining performances in this league over the years!

Can't think what he got so incensed about His celebrations when we got the equaliser were something special though ;D

He should do the Honorable thing and 'fall' on his flag, never to 'lino' again. He was probably the worse Popside official I have seen in many years. I would like to see the Benyon offside on the TV as IMO it wasn't in a million years.

That ref last night was the worst I have seen since we have been relegated. I can only think that he works for the police doing traffic control because he spent the entire evening waving his arm for the keeper to get on with it and yet not once went up to him and give him a warning. He could have booked him at least four times..
I was down the other end of the ground so cannot comment on whether Benyon was offside or not but sounds like the linesman was having a mare too.
A frustrating evening but at the end of the day it was still our misgivings that we didnt win.

Merse, it doesn’t surpise me that his handling of the game you watched last week was good. He kept-up woth the pace of the game without problem, to his credit he went ages without showing a card when he could have, he also used the advantage at times well as BUT............. The problem was consistency - the penalty FGR were awarded was soft and when the ball connected with an FGR player involuntarily in the same way - not given. Then he started to mix it up as to when to blow and when not to when a foul was conceded and it worked against us! He didn’t deal with FGR timewasting in a way that prevented them from doing it again and they got away with it every time.
Another problem was the linesman in the 2nd half - he was like a rabbit in the headlights - totally baffling and to be honest, I felt that he caused a lot of problems for the ref.
It didn’t help that the players and fans were hugely frustrated that we were falling further behind the field (in 'real terms') and it heightend the tension having to see these decisipons going against us.
Upon reflection I think we've had worse, Ian Williamson against Huddersfield in 03/04 was probably 2nd biggest culprit - behind Joe Worrall at PNE in 93/94 - if Roger Milford had the 2nd leg as well as the first we would have won that night.

OK, Phil I will put my hands up and say I am a softy, but I do feel others pain and when I was watching him when he was near me, I just got this picture in my head. It was of a man getting ready at home to go and run the line in a BSP game, maybe nervous and that mixed in with excitement. Yes he got things wrong, but not done deliberately to cheat or anything else and while decisions do cost games and lost points, we only drew and it was our our own fault and not as a direct result of any decisions. Yes a soft penalty, but our second goal came from a free kick awarded for the same type of handball, only it was outside the box. The biggest thing that upset the fans was the ref not stopping the time wasting and apart from a few wrong calls, was he really that bad.

Echo whats been said already really, we are in the 5th tier of football - if the officials were of Premier league quality, thats where they would be blowing the whistles.
What worries me is that everything is being trotted out as an excuse for not playing well enough to win matches. Every game I have been to this season we have not been all that good, and every match report I seem to read contains endless "If we had taken our chances...... ", "If they had not got a lucky break...... ", "If the ref had seen....", "If the lino hadn't flagged.....".
Doesn't cover up the fact that we are not scoring enough goals, and are letting too many in.
I am off to Oxford on Saturday, I can quite easily see us getting utterly stuffed.

For me there were two sides of the game last night:
1. The letting in of THREE goals within 15 minutes of which I would say that at least two were due to poor ball control. The penalty decision I have not seen up close - some give them and some don't. No matter who we play we cannot give goals away.
2. The Popside Lino in my opinion cost us ONE goal. We were as close to being in line as possible. 'He came from behind' and therefore not offside. The lino should not officiate in any games until he has been assessed at a much lower level. That 'goal' may have been the winner at Wembley.
The ref was poor, in particular to not punishing the f*g**t Green Rovers 'keeper for time wasting from minute 1 and IMO not being even handed with his decisions.

Equally the ref was causing FGR some grief. They were disturbed by the fact that the Ref allowed Hodges to manhandle their forwards throughout the second half, as indeed was the case. Without the persistent fouling Hodges would not have been able to hold up the attack! Yes he had a very poor game but it need not have impacted on the result if only we had stayed awake for the whole of the first half!

well to add to the debate i started ,i have just seen a video of beyons goal wish i had not .
benyon is atleast 3 yards on side when the ball is played ,last nignt i thought about the so called benefit of doubt which is supposed to go to the attacking team ,having seen the video their no doubt ,truely an awfull descision .
i did not mean this to be a deflection on our poor first half performance ,for once i think we can put that to one side ,we were truly robbed ,i can now only hope we are re-paid with a shocking descision that goes our way
