Was it really 20 years ago that Ant TUFC asked the question about a goal given to Carl Airey, he was sure the goal was not scored by him and I fully agreed with him as it was Kevan Brown who had put it in.

So does this mean that Airey's club record for scoring in consecutive games doesn't stand, or was it at a different time?!
I remember reading in Bamber's Right Foot about Airey when he wasn't playing but walking along the Pop. He took his hands out of his pockets and dislodged some loose change - one wag rather cruelly called out something along the lines of "Oi Airey, you've dropped your transfer fee!"!. I thought he was OK myself (but then I was only 12 or so when he was playing for us so didn't really know any better) - a bit of a fox in the box, but with the mobility of a rather sickly sloth.
I think in the match that he scored in to break the scoring record to put us 1-0 up (it was Carlisle IIRC, but could have been Hartlepool?), I remember looking at the league table in the programme and being delighted that we would leapfrog several teams above us (such was the belief I had in the team being almighty conquerers of all-comers) only for the team tamely surrender to a 2-1 defeat. I think from that day onwards I realised for sure that it wasn't going to be plain sailing as a Gulls fan!

otobe, we will have to ask Jon when this game was and if it was part of the record etc, the goal stood in the end as It was never challenged by anyone, Ant just spotted it when he slowed it down, it was clearly an own goal and I remember that even Airey was unsure about celebrating it when it first went in.
