www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/news/Port-s-farewell-football-character/article-867640-detail/article.htmlFormer Torquay United player Jim Vidgen has passed away at the age of 82 due to Cancer in his nursing home in Brixham. It is a real shame with so much going on at the moment. He played for Dartmouth, Newton Spurs and then Brixham United during the 1950s and 1960s. The funeral was horse-drawn and bought Brixham to a stand still with so many people attending. Do any people remember him playing for us in the 50s and 60s? R.I.P. Jim Vidgen and my condolences to his family..

Jim Vidgen played for Torquay United in the transitional 1945/46 season after WW2. He played five games in the regionalised Division Three South before Phil Joslin returned from military service to take over between the sticks.
From the age given in the article, it seems he would only have been at the start of his career then. I don't know if he stayed on at Plainmoor playing reserve football or quickly moved on to play for the top local sides of the day.
Maybe when somebody updates the Centenary History they will include the War Years - so that players like Vidgen could get the recognition they deserve.
