Moving on from my previous thread regarding Barcelona's 'second' team Espanyol, I did also get a chance to disappear from honeymoon duties to take in a visit to the Camp Nou (as we should call it...) Home, obviously, to Barcelona.
I visited both the stadium and the museum and anyone who goes to this city and doesn't do this tour is really missing out.
The ground is fairly odd in that considering it's size it is fairly inconspicuous. From high on Mountjuic it is only just possible to make out the concrete sides to the stadium amongst the high rise apartment blocks but nothing to tell you that standing there is one of the world's largest football grounds. Try and spot it in the photograph below, a clue, look for the gentle concrete curve.
Even walking along the main street to it there is no real clue that it is standing there until walking around the corner and having it suddenly appear straight in front!
This image of a footballer stands by the main entrance.
The stadium itself is fairly boring to be honest in that it is just one vast bowl with seating on the three tiers, although the main stand has an awesome roof over it.
But it is the inside that is fascinating... these pictures show, in order, the away teams shower and bath area; the away players lockers; the vast press box and the view high up from the press box.
Further inside the stadium are the various press briefing areas, this picture showing where the players parade in after a game and stand behind the barrier, moving along from interview to interview in procession.
Whilst Barcelona's very own television channel broadcasts from their studio situated near to the player's tunnel.
The museum is superb, room after room of memorabilia, not just from the club but from Catalan, Spanish and world football going back to the end of the 1800's. Including the European cup...
Barcelona is well worth a visit, but if going on a honeymoon make sure you leave plenty of time whilst there for visits and have a spare credit card made out in the new wife's name!
