I will put this up nice and early as I'm sure you may want to post your views on this game. Three points from our last 12 is not the form we hoped we would be showing going into the final game.
The good news it is still in our own hands and there is no reason why fate can't favour us for once. Its going to be an afternoon with many twists. that is one thing we can be sure of.
Keep the faith and don't give up the dreams, we have good enough players who have proved before they can get results and we did when we played Burton away.
Not sure if the club would have enough time to now make the game all ticket, but expect a big gate so get there nice and early.

Beat Burton three times in a row and we'll be at Wembley! Be positive and get behind them on sunday, the boys can do it!
I'm not sure what to do, watch it nice and comfortable in an Irish pub in Eindhoven or make the 1000 miles roundtrip to Plainmoor? I have to work on the monday so that would be a hell of a ride...

Oh dear! Well my glass is most definately half full. 1. It`s in our hands, beat Burton and it doesn`t matter what anyone else does. 2. I`d rather be in our position than Kiddie. 3. Burton are under pressure. do they play for the draw or go for the win, could be more nervous than us. 4. We generally play better against footballing sides at the top end of the table. 5. Kiddie`s last five read 0-3-1 6. Kiddie have a difficult game against Kettering which they must win. But then again....... 1. Our last five reads 0-3-1 2. The strikers have forgotten where the goal is. 3. We choked/ran out of gas last year, will we do it again? 4. 2 games in a week for hargreaves will he have the legs on sunday? 5. I can see us getting as draw (81), Kiddie winning (82) and Stevenage drawing (83). 6. Our home form has not been good all season. If anyone out there is new to following Utd. Welcome to a normal heart testing end of season as a Gull. No matter what happens, if we dip out, nothing will hurt more than a well meaning spouse or family member saying "never mind, there is always next season." buster ;D

A good summing up there, Buster. There is the stark possibility that by 6pm on Sunday our season will be over for the next few months. Our whole season hinges on this one match and that's what worries me. One or two dodgy ref decisions, unexpected injuries (thank god we had Poke on the bench last night) - it's a bit of a lottery like the play-offs themselves.
I'll be there along with my brother from Germany, and I also hope to buy my first ever season ticket this weekend. So I will continue to support the club whatever happens on Sunday.
I remember describing last season as a "nearly" season. On one hand there were many highs and achievements but when it came to the crunch (playoffs and Wembley) we fell short. Fatigued was largely to blame. However this season seems to have followed the same trend, and do we have enough left in the tank to get into the play-offs and beyond ? Current form would suggest we have not. We are still far too reliant on players like Hargreaves and Nicholson as perfectly demonstrated by Hargreaves heroics last night at Barrow. Personally I'm disappointed Thompson has not been used much in midfield in recent weeks.
I wonder whether Buckle has made full use of our squad over the season that is by his admission much stronger than last season. Let's hope this will not be another "nearly" season by 6pm. on Sunday. Let's at least do our bit as supporters and get Plainmoor rocking on Sunday.

Swangull
I agree re use of squad as I posted on another topic.
Re my last post.better get in quick before the eagle eyed ones spot my error.
Of course the last 5 record should read 1-3-1 for kiddie & us. Just feels like we havn`t won.

So is anyone going to be brave and put down the team they think should start the match? what about the result, will we win and if so what will the score be.

Bevan/Poke Mansell Robinson Hodges Nicholson Hargreaves Wroe Carlise Caryol Sills Sturrock Subs:Bevan/Poke Stevens Todd Green Benyon
H/T 0-1
F/T 2-1 4,300 crowd
I would have liked to have seen Thompson there but I think he may lack match practice and I feel Desane could well end up with a red card in what will be a very highly charged atmosphere. Someone please have a word with Lee Mansell!!

Subs: Dsane, Carayol, Robertson, Green, Hodges
I don't think Bevs will make it. We will annihilate them. 2-0 Stevens and Sills.

Looks like the play offs have come a week early to me. Death or Glory time Burton will be very nervous - it won't have been the first time that Cambridge have pipped another team on the last day of the season by goal difference You never know what Torquay side is going to turn up this season but when we are good, we are really good - we will see both how much the team wants it and their ability to cope with a pressure situation. At least we have coped well recently in front of Setanta with two of our best performances there. In respect of squad rotation and tiredness, would say that only Hargreaves, Mansell and Sills haven't had a meaningful break this season and don't think that this can be used as an excuse! In this respect we are well ahead of last year. A guessimate of the squad: Poke Mansell, Todd, Robertson Nicholson Carlisle Wroe Hargreaves Stevens Sills Sturrock Subs: Carayol, Benyon, Hodges, Green, Thompson As a discussion point, if Bevan is out injured, a recall for Rice to sit on the bench?

I think if Bevan was out then recalling Rice would not be a good move, I can understand the need for cover on the bench, but just imagine if Rice had to go in goal and cost us a play-off place due to a big mistake, the fans would crucifie him I'm afraid.

If Bevan is definitely out for the rest of the season then recall rice as Truro are already promoted but if he is only out for one game then cover it with Hodges/Sills

If Bevan is definitely out for the rest of the season then recall rice as Truro are already promoted but if he is only out for one game then cover it with Hodges/Sills I disagree, we are already effectively IN the play off scenario with HAVING to win the next game to keep our destiny in our own hands..................get this one wrong and there will be no further games! Ignore the stupidity that has often been posted about Martin Rice who by all means isn't as strong on crosses as we would wish, but nevertheless IS a professional goalkeeper who is an extremely good shot stopper AND probably as good as anybody else and better than most in this league at penalty saving. Whatever has been eulogised about Tim Sills at FGR, he was absolutely dire in the period up until half time when Kenny Veysey had a few minutes to get him into "GK Mode" and for that to be repeated in a game of this pressure and magnitude does not bear thinking about. Hodges, we don't really know about do we except that he has a bit of "previous" of taking over in an emergency at his previous club. Let Martin Rice step up to the plate..................he'll never be accepted by the idiot fringe who judge him primarily with the "Grecian" tag uppermost in their tiny minds, but then we all know who would be singing his name the loudest IF it were destiny that he came on and made a promotion achieving penalty save.......................strange things DO happen, stranger things HAVE happened ~ ask Jimmy Glass!

In this respect we are well ahead of last year. I agree with you entirely on this, especially in the matter of Hargreaves, Mansell and Sills and even then, Greavsie has had a little break recently enforced by suspension and injury. Mansell is one of those "perpetual motion" guys who appears to thrive on constantly playing but Sills DOES look jaded at this stage of the season as he did last time around. Maybe that's appearances being deceptive as he isn't the most mobile or pacy of players to say the least, and like so many; an early goal for him could make the world of difference to his energy levels. In games like the one we are about to enter (and hopefully then at least three more) the choice and use of substitutes becomes even more important and the impact of their utilisation can be massive. We DO have some rather effective impact players on our books and this could well be their time.
