Sea Cloud Two
I find it such a magic moment when you go around a corner and you see something that blows your mind away. That happened to me today as I drove past the higher ferry on my way to the lower ferry in Dartmouth.
When we had a VW Caddy van I always used the higher ferry, but when we changed to a van not much bigger our Ford Connect, they said that instead of the £20 for 20 crossing book I had always bought, I had to pay £44 for a 20 crossing book. The lower ferry were happy to charge me just £20 still, mind you the book has gone up to £25 now.
The only problem with the lower ferry is that unlike the much bigger higher ferry that has two big cables under the water level to guide it across, the lower ferry is pushed and pulled by a boat beside it. Much more unstable and when the tide is high and rough and the ferry is on the slipway, you get bashed up against the wall and my van has moved on the deck before with the force of the impact.
Yes back to what I saw, it was the Sea Cloud Two, a very beautiful three mast modern built cruse ship and she was built in 2001. Being in the van I stopped on some yellow lines and got put my camera phone, only the sun was so bright I could not see the ship on the phone screen. I just about made out the top of the masts and took a few shots.
The photos do not show just how she dominated the river Dart with her size, but at least I got her all in the picture. I carried onto the lower ferry and I always catch up with my paperwork on the crossing but not today. On the deck foot passengers along with some who had got out of their cars, clearly all holiday makers were busy taking photos from the ferry.
I looked toward the mouth of the river Dart where the castle is and in the sunlight and all the colours being so bright it was a beautiful sight, what a magic place Dartmouth is. I started thinking about where and why people live where they do, but in the end I took the view people will live where they are most happy, or need to live for work etc.
Some will like the high life that can be found in big cities, others will like life to be a bit more laid back such as in a village or small town. We are all different in some ways, but no better or worse than anyone else just because of where we choose to live.
Below the two pictures I took today and a few I found on the web inside the ship. Also a picture I took on my phone on the 10/12 2008, I think this great yacht was owned by some Texas Oil man, I was told the captain had worked as the captain on a the yacht owned by the man who owns Chelsea.
I found a few good videos as well you might like to watch
