I can see them from my house and have no problem with them being there. But then again I am not a bigot and prefer to treat people as I find them. Not a bgot Jim, but take the advice the police gave us and make sure you lock up your home well tonight. So you do not mind having to foot the bill to clean up all their mess? don't you think there are better things we need our tax spending on. Maybe you were not kept awake all night by their generators as those who live behind the park were last night. Carol's friend lives far to close for comfort and has to go away this weekend, she is worried stiff about leaving her home empty and you can't tell me thats OK. How do you feel at the Zoo when people break into it? that gate was locked so why has nothing been done about it, its fine wanting to stick up for such people, but they need to live by the same rules we have too and yes paying in like the rest of us would not be a bad thing.

In what way was it crap Jim, you can`t handle the TRUTH mate, are you really a sympathiser of such people? I hope not, why would the Police go around to all the local houses and warn everyone to be extra vigilant, I`m sure the Police must be full of crap aswell then, don`t be a donut mate!

I cant be doing with this witch hunt. God help anybody who dares to be different down here in the bay. Intolerance is live and well in Devon.Your starting to sound like Merse Jim, its a nice evening so take a walk down and look at Clennon Valley, if you can defend the mess made down there, then sorry but I can't really take your views very serious. Its not a case of being different, it sure is not the case of anyone being different, we welcome hundreds of people to the Bay each and every year and make welcome those who move here from other parts of the country just like you Jim. Sadly most travellers are trouble, they cause damage and make mess where ever they go, they break the law and freely get away with it. I may be suffering form intolerance, but only because I live within the law, pay my dues to my country and expect to be able to live in my own home without fear. This lot are now parked far to close to peoples homes and Carol is concerned they are too close to the school, maybe Carol is a bigot too, but I would rather think she is someone who is justifiably concerned.

It would appear the boy Jim is somewhat brainwashed by certain liberal ideals (imho), I feel you are wasting your time Dave, I am quite happy to let him think what he wants and have his say as he is perfectly entitled to, he probably thinks I have right wing views and am entitled to think them aswell, but everyone to their own at the end of the day, I don`t think people should get too arsey over it after all it`s just a discussion. By the way the arsey remark was not directed at you or any one else, well maybe myself!

Too close to a school!!!!! I have heard it all now. You dont have to take my views seriously Dave........you dont have to take them at all. children are often very impressionable Jim and will have to walk past the camp to get to KFC at lunchtimes and when going to and coming home from school. Carol is a mother and a very sensible person, if she feels there is a need to be concerned then I do to. Your problem Jim is you are trying to defend something that can't be defended, facts are facts and if there was no need for us to be concerned, why did the police take the time and offer advice to all those who live nearby? Its fine for people to want to be different Jim, but they make themselves disliked because they do not live by the same rules and laws all decent people do, by their own actions they make themselves different, maybe if they want to be tolerated, they should live by the rules of the land, not do illegal acts like breaking fences and parking on land they are not allowed too and then clean up the mess they make when they leave. How much so far has it cost in court fees to keep getting eviction notices? by the way the reason they are granted is because the travellers are breaking the law in the first place. Sorry to go on about the zoo, but animal right protesters have different views than your Jim, they commit illegal acts and break into zoos etc and that has happened before at Paignton, maybe by your argument to need to try and understand then a bit better and don't forget to show them some tolerance, its not their fault their different, is It?

If the travellers cleared up after themselves and tried to put something back into the Community rather than take, take, take (to the power of a 100) then us locals/idiots/bigots* I'm sure would be happier.
I would still like to know how they can do it.............

Where has it been written on the thread that anyone is bothered about the travellers are just different? or choose to live a different lifestyle than most of us.
Not long ago a group of Eco people were granted the right to carry on living in a wood they owned, they had built huts etc to live in, not how I would want to live but we should be free to live anyway we like as long as its within the laws of the country.
I have no problems if people do not want to live in houses, but choose to move around the country in a caravan, once again not a lifestyle I would choose.
The only time it becomes a problem is when you have travellers like the ones we now have in Paignton, they have no respect for the law, break down fences and gates and move on to land illegally. Trash the sites they stay on and leave them in such a state it costs the council money to clean up the sites and remove all the rubbish they leave behind.
If these people do not want to be despised then they must stop breaking the law, why should it be OK for them to do it, If I was to break down the gate at Clennon Valley and park a caravan on it, I would be removed within hours.
I said on this thread that I saw this group coming down the M5, most had no number plates on their vans, yet do the police do anything? Ant got fined for having Gilbert on his number plate, the car did have a number plate, all the letters were the correct size and in the correct place.
Mind you due to having only one number on his plate and checking the legal requirements, the plate has been made much shorter, this has meant he has been able to have another small plate the size of a coaster that has gilbert on it, separated from the number plate by a black strip.
At the end of the day they can be as different as they want, but they have no respect for others, do just as they like and bring all bad feelings toward them on themselves.

I used the observation from Jim as an illustration of how to be different isn't easy ~ that's all, I'm not advocating anti social behaviour and I don't think any particular lifestyle entitles anyone to be anti social...................after all to be unwelcoming to those of a different lifestyle could be construed as anti social too!

From todays HE:
Inspector Adrian Leisk, speaking from Paignton police station, said that the annual merry-go-round of the travellers' visits would only be halted if Torbay had an official site for them.
He added: "The Government has indicated to us that Torbay must have a temporary transit site by 2011, and it has allocated a pot of money to make this happen".
"The Police can use its powers if there is a facility the travellers can relocate to. Travellers aren't going to stop travelling".
We do appreciate the level of local feeling on this issue, and we shall be enacting high-profile patrols at the site".
"We will take appropriate action against anyone breaking the law, and we will support the bailiffs in their work".
The last paragraph made me laugh - one assumes the law of trespass, dropping litter etc does not apply to them. Also one assumes that if they work they declare it and complete the relevant tax forms. I think not Mr Leisk.
