Concorde was the greatest aircraft ever built in my view, what a shape and famous for its nose, sadly after a terrible crash it was to fly no more. It once flew over Plainmoor, I can’t tell you when this was, maybe it was the day it landed at Exeter airport? It heads high over Torquay. It drops down and the Warberries can be seen. Low over the floodlights Then they came from space

fabulous aircraft. my Dad went on it for his 50th over the Bay of Biscay.
When I was in the RAF at West Drayton, we used to go down to Heathrow on a sunday afternoon just watch the planes. concorde was a beautiful sight.
My other favourite aircraft is the Vulcan. saw these at RAF Waddington shortly before the Falklands when I first joined up. went on the flight deck which was tiny.

I remember going to Berry Head in late 80's to watch Concorde fly over the bay whilst the QE2 was in the bay---was this the same visit? Cant remember what the occasion was--anyone??

longeatongull I took the picture from a house I lived in until 1990. so I think it was the same day you went to Berryhead.
I have done a google search with no luck, but will keep looking as it must be recorded somewhere.

Of course, when I was growing up I could hear Concorde flying over every evening... I think it was around seven o'clock? The 'boom boom' created by the plane still flying at supersonic speed as it navigated via the Berry Head navigational beacon was quite intriguing for a child.

I thought it was about 9 o'clock each evening but I've had a drink and my memory's not the best anyway. As for the QE2/Concorde thing, if it's not been said already, I'm sure it was done to mark the Queen's visit to Torquay?? Maybe, 1988? I was working for the Palm Court Hotel and I remember flicking the "v's" to Phil the Greek! Got to see the explosives sniffer dogs in action that day, which made it for me.

I`ve noticed you have been improving your super imposing techneques lately Dave! Not this time aussie, they are genuine pictures taken on a film camera in the late 80's, how could you think I would alter the pictures mate

The date was the 28th August 1988!
I was in my mate's speedboat with a long lens waiting to get the money shot of one passing over the other - but it didn't really work.
However, check this shaky video out ... does it make 3 or 4 swoops aroound the bay?
I miss seeing/hearing it every evening in these parts.
2 favourite sightings of Concorde:
1. Whilst doing postgrad year at Bristol Poly (now UWE), I saw an unliveried alluminium Concorde take off and land from Filton, with the sun reflecting off its fuselage
2. Whilst at Twickenham for the Middx Sevens, the crowd breaking off from watching the action around 6.30 pm, to switch to a spontaneous yet mighty chorus of 'We'll take more care of you - Fly the flag!' - the line from the BA TV ad of the time.
Anyone see either of those moments?
