I would like to thank you all for the wonderful response you have shown on the forum over the last few days, so good to see posters posting for the first time and posts of the quality we have become famous for.
In a strange way I’m glad what happened did, because I feel there was so much to learn form the events and I firmly believe we will become an even better forum because of it.
This last year has been a very big learning curve for me on two fronts, the first one has been learning how to built a forum and work with codes, at times the code work has been a struggle but in the end I have got there and even given myself a pat on my back.
The second learning curve has been learning how to just run it, I did set the forum up on strong foundations, the forum is open, honest and has very good values and principals. I have learnt that at times I may not understand why a member has taken a certain viewpoint, but so often I then get sent a PM with details of some event in their life’s that has made them form that viewpoint.
It’s true we will often base our views on experiences we have had and that leads nicely onto what I have been giving some deep thought this week. You see I have heard it said and I must confess have believed it myself that you need to be tough to survive on a forum, but should that really be the case?
Yes on a forum I belonged too before I would say I needed to be able to hold my own and fight off some attacts that I felt really were over the top and not necessary, but how did that make me feel? How much did that really add or take away from my enjoyment being a member on the forum.
I have asked a few members this week who do not post just why that is, I got the replies they don’t as they fear the will get their heads bit off, that really also can’t be right or the way any member should feel on a forum where we are all in effect on the same side.
From day one on the TFF the message has been we are a friendly forum, one that cares and one that has TUFC fans as its members who have grown into a real good community, a forum where we can discuss the very common interest we all share and that is TUFC and also a forum where we can share and discuss so much more and I think you will agree we get such a fantastic range of subjects that do get covered.
This forum was meant to be different from any I had used before and being able to discuss things in the proper way was and really is the only way to go, the whole point of debate is to discuss views, disagree if you don’t agree with them, but it has never been in my view the chance to get digs in at fellow members or try and belittle them or make them look stupid.
It’s never about winning at all costs, it’s about putting your views down and then listening to the other members views and then giving your reasons if you happen to not share the same views, Name calling, putting some label on the member and trying to make it fit, trying to score points really is not the way to debate and not the TFF way. All it does is upset a fellow member who then might leave or just stop posting that just undoes all the good work the forum does to try and encourage more members to join in and post with us.
I really don’t think anyone should be ridiculed for having their own views, I sure don’t believe they should be subject to ruddiness or abuse just because they hold than and said so in a post that is providing the views are legal and not raciest etc.
From now on Jim and I will PM any member who in our view has fallen short of the standards we expect to be shown to fellow members, it will always be the case you will be given the chance to review your post and make changes if you feel there is a need.
If a reply to one of your posts upsets you, then can I just ask that before you do anything you just PM me, I really am here to help and make the experience for you as a member on the TFF as enjoyable as possible.
All I’m asking is that we show our respect to everyone one on here, we do not have to ever agree with them and we can always scroll past their posts if we choose, but we should never make them feel unwelcome or in some way inferior just because we don’t agree with them.
This week’s winner.
What can I say about this man; well it seems its finest hours on the forum come when he is home, chilled out with a nice glass of wine in his hand. He has such great wit and makes me laugh so often, but in his posts you will find wise words and sound reasoning and most of the time it all makes some sort of sense. This is his very first win, but I bet it won’t be his last.
The Winner Is midlandstufc well done and fully deserved

I was just going to write a PM to Dave R and pledge my support for all his efforts - I'm certainly too lazy and selfish to put in all the work he does that we enjoy - but I can't help but publicise my views on all this due to vanity...
There's some great posts on this subject that nearly won a Best Poster vote from me but I couldn't decide on which.
Suffice to say that, despite differences in outlook that are only natural, we all have a link in our affinity of a love for a small club that has had more downs than ups over the years. I would say that gives all a little part of our persona to understand the ills and tribulations that life throws us in this world. We may be quick to judge on occasion but that is only human nature and the posters on this site generally admit and apologise for inappropriate, plain wrong and daft posts - which I think is down to Dave R and the ethos he has created here.
I have now read all the posts on this thread and have stopped myself in returning to the offending thread as I know I posted some opinions there myself and have managed (manfully) to let sleeping dogs lie (her name's Tara and she smells - {sorry I couldn't hep my natural flippancy!}).
So, yes Dave, delete the thread, move on and it will all be forgotten. The issues may have the genesis of us being in the hiatus between one glorious day and the, for certain, trials and tribulations to come now we are back in League football.
I don't mind admitting that I am becoming increasingly tetchy when asked by work colleagues whether we will manage to stay up this season and it must be an underlying cloud to me when I post on here about all subjects. Having said that, however, I believe we can do it.
I also believe that there is good in our fellow posters hearts and no-one would look down on anyone solely for personal attributes (I understand when I have to scroll down past bleedin' trains photos and it slows down my work's computer for pity's sake! - I also forgive the spelling and grammar errors {but only just mind!}) and, so, I am in a positive state of mind that the Dave R forum (yes it's yours my friend!) will continue to give us entertainment for years to come.
Where else would I get my tenuous link, not only to the club I love, but to where I was brought up?
Anyway, who's for a very old non-PC joke? Eh? No-one? Who cares here goes -
Englishman, Irishman and Scotsman - sitting on the girders of a skyscraper they are buildling opening their lunchboxes ...
E'man says "bleedin heck, I've got cheese sandwiches again! I tell my wife all the time that I'm sick of cheese sandwiches. If I get them again tommorrow I going to bloody jump off!"
S'man opens his lunchbox "Oh fer chris-sake! Ah got bloody ham agin! Ah'm wi you ye Sassensach ye! If I get ham agin tomoree, ah'll jump tee!"
Paddy does likewise "Oh be jeesus! Corned beef! I hate corned beef. Oy'll be with yoi my beauties (yes, he's also a pirate - sorry)"
So, tomorrow comes (as it does) and they open their lunchboxes -
First is the cockney (I've made him one for comedy affect) - "Cor, love a duck, I can't adam and eve it! Cheese! Again, me old chinas, that's it I'm gawn!" With that Alan (for that is his cockenee name), launches himself off the girder and plummets to his messy death.
Next is Jimmy (for purely stereotypical reasons) - "I doon't beleeave it! {sorry, couldn't resist} Ah've gut bloody ham agin! That's it! Alan {aka Merse} ah'm a joining ye!" And with that, he too launches hisself to certain death.
Finally Paddy sits there all sad and loathe to look at what food he has in his lunchbox. But sure enough, his bread is filled with corned beef - "allreet {he spent some time in Newcastle} muy English and Scottish brothers, oi'l be joining yu, to be sure!" And he throws himself down the twenty stories to the hard concrete.
Some hours later the wives are congregated at the building site.
Angie says "But he loved cheese! He told me once in 1989 and I always made him cheese sandwiches ever since because of that!"
Muriel says "Me too, he said he liked ham and so I gave him what he loved. I just cannae understand it!"
But Mary says "I can't understand it either, he always made his own sandwiches!"
(do I get best poster of the week for this??? please, I have a sad and lonely life reading this forum to reconpense for!!!)
Seriously though; Dave R - I have utmost respect for you and if things get you down, that just goes to show that you are living breathing human being and not a cold fish like the rest of us. More power to you!
Diversity is the spice of life and you have brought the diverse together in what is mostly adult (can't speak for myself though) conversation. Why do we post on here? - because we have a common interest and we like to belong to a good group that follows the yellows! (yes, I used to be a poet! Not!). Also, we learn more here than we do from HE or other places than from the mundane world. More power to your keyboard!
Yep, it's time I refilled my glass.
Best wishes and regards, Scott.
(apologies for my own typos etc, it's the cheeky Languedoc's (French Red) fault, honest!)
