I went with my cornish mate to a pre-season between Llanelli v Truro tonight. turned up at Stebonheath Park to be told that the pitch was waterlogged and the game had been moved.
quiz question for Barton, where was it played???
It was a very pleasant and entertaining evening. I witnessed the debut of Les Afful where he played centre forward!!!! ;D yes, he did win several headers
There were quite a few ex-league players especially from Exeter.
Truro:
Barry McConnell
Santos Gaia
Marcus Martin
Joe Broad
Andy Taylor
Scott Walker
Les Afful
Danny Clay
Llanelli
Andy Legg
Steve Jenkins
Andrew (fatboy) Mumford
Jason Bowen
Lee Jarmen
Antonio Corbisiero
Chris Holloway
Matthew Jones
The game was very entertaining and Truro raced into a lead within a minute. Walker was felled in the area and McConnell blasted the pen into the top corner. The temporary goals shuddered with the blistering pace.
Llanelli equalised with a bit of head tennis in the area just before half time.
Llanelli changed almost the whole team at the break but Truro resisted until much later.
Afful looked quick but his team mates insisted on playing long high balls to a targetman who is only 5ft 4
Scott Walker put Truro in lead a game with a good strike from distance.
Llanelli started to take control and Gaia seemed to switch off. Several lapses led to Llanelli winning 4-2, Bowen getting at least one of them.
I spent most of the game talking to the father of Antonio Corbisiero. He told me about the whole career of his son and how all his children were born in Devon.
After being released by Reading he spent his early professional years at Swansea under John Cornforth. John took him to Newport on loan and was supposed to take him to Torquay when he took over but things didn't work out.
He looked quite good but league standard. he's 24 now but League of wales maybe his level now.
So many youngsters get rejected by premiership and championship clubs never to achieve their dreams. Hopefully, we can catch these players before they slip through the net - eg Kuffour, Canoville, Hollands.
A nice gentle easing back into the season in the Principality
