Remember the Errea SW Cup which we contested in North Devon this time last year?
Well, I see this year's competition - expanded from last year with a decent array of teams - has hit problems after a relatively smooth start. Firstly, the weather caused problems on Friday leading to two games being cancelled and the respective group leaders qualifying for the semi-finals without the group stages being completed. Now, with a Grimsby v Luton final planned for today at Bideford, the two clubs have apparently failed to agree a kick-off time in light of the need for policing given Grimsby manager Mike Newell's history at Luton. Grimsby have withdrawn and have been replaced by Royal Racing FC Montegnee of Belgium who lost both group games and failed to qualify for the semi-finals. Perhaps everybody has buggered off home? It does seem that clubs are happy to play the group stages but are less-arsed when it comes to the semi-finals and finals. Clearly too many clubs means too many games in too short a time...
