Dave,
Glad you enjoyed your day out in East Devon. I know the Braodclyst pitch very well as for a number of years I played tennis every week on the courts adjacent to the pitch, often whilst evening games were being played.
The brick building that you photographed are actually the club house for the bowling green which can be seen in your last two pictures with changing rooms on the side of the building. I believe these facilities and the tennis courts were provided some years ago with Prince's Trust funding. The goal posts can be seen 'stored' at the back of the bowling green and these are carried out and assembled on the pitch when there is a game, The tennis courts can just be seen behind the goal posts.
Broadclyst is a lovely community with a popular school, two good pubs, a sports centre and a busy village hall. The latter made the news last year when it hosted a BNP meeting which understandably caused a rift in the community. Many of the cottages in the old village are part of the Killerton estate and painted in the estate's distinctive ochre colour.

It is indeed a very lovely village and we walked all the roads and back lanes. Everyone said hello in true Devon fashion. I loved the old church, only the inside did not feel or look as old as I expected before I went in, the outside justs look so much older. I took pictures of every stained glass windows in the church, they really are beautiful. Below is a few pictures of the church and the school and two cottages I loved, one I know belongs to the National Trust, only it was closed today as was the mill, but we walked down to it and the mill anyway. Cottages behind pub near the church The school, well the old part of it anyway The National Trust Cottage

Excellent pictures as always Dave. I particularly enjoyed scrolling through those as my parents live just off the main road from Broadclyst to Pinhoe and that church is where my grandad was laid to rest a couple of years back.
It's a very nice little village and I always enjoying driving down the main road and coming into the bit where a lot of the houses are painted the same colour. I believe they have to kept this way. I guess it's probably, as ricardo mentioned, to do with them being part of the estate??

I think we are all guilty of driving past so many villages and never stopping and taking the time to explore them. Carol and I enjoy so much walking around such villages and discussing a great cottage, or building we find interesting.
Due to the posts on another thread, I will put my views on such wonderful communities that are so alive and well in places like Broadcyst, on that thread.
The church was fully open and unattended and the village(apart from the main road) was peaceful and felt very warm and welcoming. As I said everyone we walked past, who were cutting the grass, cleaning their car etc, said hello, but we who live here know, that once out of the large towns and cities, that is how people are to each other.
I intend to do many more village walks and know that Carol and I will enjoy them and the hidden treasures we will find.

Dave - a village that you would enjoy if you have not been is Broadhembury - not far from Broadclyst off the Cullompton to Honiton road. It really is the idyllic Devon village with all the features you would expect including church, manor house and an excellent pub with a pretty garden.
Also worth a walk or drive up on to the hill behind the village where there is a small airfield used by the gliding club.
