Here's one for people to ponder.
What is the only club to get knocked out of the FA Cup only to go on to knock out the team that knocked them out two rounds later.
Answers on a postcard .....

I can see where you are coming from - lucky losers when Man U went off globetrotting - but no.

Qualifying rounds or competition proper?

I tried a Google search on this and - what do you know? - I found the same question being asked on another message board....
If I'm following your drift...St George, in the days before the Roman Glass appendage. What's the story? Minehead, Frome, Spencer Moulton, St George...how's it fit?
And we're called Torquay Town....forms submitted to the FA before the name change? Meanwhile, they're down as Bristol St George when they may just have been St George at the time....

Yes - the two clubs in question are Torquay and Bristol St George in the 1921/22 season. I'd known for a long time that we beat Bristol St George 6-0 in the second qualifying round, but was amazed to see that Tony Brown of Soccerdata has unearthed the original draw for the extra preliminary round and one of his missing scores is for a game between Bristol St George and Torquay Town. Of course, this game cannot have taken place as by this time Torquay Town had become Torquay United by merging with Babbacombe. Indeed, on the date in question Torquay United were winning an extra preliminary round tie at Minehead. I can only guess that Town entered the Cup before the merger talks were complete and United then entered after they were complete. So the adjusted record books will show Bristol St George walking over Torquay in the extra preliminary round, only to go out to Torquay in the second qualifying round. Hang on a minute, extra preliminary round - preliminary round - first qualifying - second quaifying ..... Scrap that question. What is the only club to get knocked out of the FA Cup only to go on to knock out the team that knocked them out three rounds later.
