I find it amazing looking back at all the kits that were used by the club from its very first years in the league and through the years up until our current season. I often wonder what has happened to all those kits, I can’t believe they have all just been lost or destroyed forever. I expect some are in family hands and the children have been shown the shirt that granddad worn when he was a young footballer playing for TUFC and it would be really great to know just what players shirts have survived. I do know that during the 60’s the club gave away old kits to Newton Abbot Spurs to use, but I have always wondered if the club have kept shirts from the past and also what else it has held onto, such as programmes and historic documents etc. It would be great to know just what has been kept and I would love to be able to put them up in our history room, maybe Jon could do a bit of digging. Below are all the kits we have used since 1901 to 2009.

I am really proud to have thought up this history room, you guys are brilliant at putting the info up, I`m learning so much about TUFC that I never knew and without this particular board would never know any of what I`ve learned, thank you!

....the 74-77 season was the first kit i can remember, in my opinion, its by far the best kit we've ever had......simple but stylish.
I know our current away kit is a little similair, it would be nice to see that design copied completely one day......as a home or away kit.

So do you have a shirt that once belonged to a well known TUFC player? if so I hope you will post a picture of it on this thread. I'll start the ball rolling with a shirt from Ants collection, the previous owner was the one and only Rodney Jack.

Thanks to Dave for posting that display of our playing strips over the years which comes from the excellent Historical Football Kits website at www.historicalkits.co.uk. I was grateful to Chris Hayes yesterday for pointing out the significance of Bury's home and away kit this year. The information below can be found at www.historicalkits.co.uk/Bury/Bury.htm: To mark their 125th anniversary in 2009-10, Bury adopted a home kit based on their original strip from 1885 alongside a change strip based on that from 1892-93.

I have a number of ex player issue shirts Dave, some of which I have pictures of & others that at present I don't. The most famous of which (For the fact that he's an ex International who left under a cloud) is Ole Gottskalksson: I also have Andy Marriott's keepers shirt: Martin Gritton away shirt: Craig Woodman's away shirt: I do have other player issue shirts too including 2 more keepers shirts but don't have pictures of these

Dave, Don't want to be picky but I think the original secretary wrote a book about the formation of Torquay United (think he was called Luscombe) and he states that in their first ever game which may have been at Barton Downs or Teignmouth Road,Torquay played in red and white hoops. It was very muddy and raining and when they washed the kit it turned out to be the colour of a salmon. I have the book somewhere but can't find it. By the way, yellow shirts and blue shorts must be the kit home - and wherever possible away. All part of corporate identity, the Brazil thing etc. Same should apply to the programmes.

Sam, I've popped the book on here somewhere on it's own thread, I'll find the link and add it in a sec. Bill Luscombe's 'history' is rather sketchy to say the least, indeed I believe Jon was going to post all the known mistakes and place the corrected parts on here. (Wasn't he? Sorry Jon if I got that wrong!) Found it: www.torquayfansforum.com/index.cgi?board=tufchistory&action=display&thread=4416
