The home of Ajax, but most of their fans don't like the stadium and prefer their old ground, that was not an oval stadium. In this picture you will see the pee things I have talked about on here, its to the left of the orange box. Away fans can only buy a ticket, that brings them to the ground by train, The platform is next to the stadium. They can't get of the platform and must walk through this caged walkway into the away part of the stadium. See picture below. This is the part the away fans get into, you will see its in the corner and the upper level, but it is fenced in. The last three are shots of the ground, take a look at the pitch. The stadium management were not happy, as Ajax were refusing to play on the pitch and a new one was being laid the next day. I have to say it look first class to me.

It's obviously out of the same box as the Emirates Stadium, right down to the walkways. Such a shame when such iconic clubs can't display a bit of imagination and create something instantly "them" I went to the old Ajax ground at De Meer................it wasn't up to much and a sad disappointment for so great a club. Whenever they had a big European game they used to play at the old Olympic Stadium (home of Amsterdam FC) which although twice as big was a dump. Now they have a state of the art stadium to play in, they ruin the pitch by having that stupid American Football played on it and I'd heard that the retractable roof wasn't exactly conducive to good turf husbandry either. The best Dutch stadium I visited was the Phillips Stadion in Eindhoven (PSV) a proper football ground! and the worst was the "Koop" in Rotterdam (FC Feyenoord) where I finally gave up on following England abroad due to the shocking and frankly embarrassing violence of the NF inspired West Ham contingent amongst the England fans, the pathetic football under Graham Taylor; and the fact that I got half my arse torn out by a police dog on the end of a twenty metre chain whilst the idiot on the other end of the chain just laughed and sneered. The ground itself was an absolute disgrace and little better than a stock car arena.................watching a match from the corner through one fence is bad enough, but three? Wooden terracing little more than planks and appalling sight lines (I think it must have been primarily built as a velodrome) Yer average Dutch fan is a fine guy to socialise with until England come along and then they undergo a complete transformation, but is it any wonder?....................well yer average England fan is a complete and utter pillock anyway - they've got to be to waste their hard earned on that bunch of losing posers!

Merse I'm sure Rolf will reply to your post, as to an Ajax supporter, you have used a few swear words in your post mate ;D ;D
Rolf may explain more about the arrangements at the stadium, but I believe Ajax has no control as to what events take place there.
I believe it is, how it would have been for our club, had it moved to the Roberts stadium. Just one more reason, we should be glad we didn't.

Dear Merse, You're right, "De Meer" was a small stadium, too small for a club like Ajax, but it was home, it felt like home, although we outgrown the stadium. yes, we played our big games at the "Olympisch Stadion" which was twice as big, and yes, it was a big dump. ;D but i loved being there. there had to be made decisions for the future and there were several options, they could improve the Olympic stadium (my choice) or get a new stadium with no history, it's not even ours, we have to pay rent , so that's the reason why there could be other events, but the American football team does not exist anymore, so the pitch is much better yes, the best stadium is the PSV one, because to me it reminds of an English football stadium the Feyenoord one, "De Kuip" is also improved, i don't know what year you visited it, but when you talk about an Holland-England game with violence sounds a long time ago So, i totally agree with Merse

Well it was fifteen years ago (1993) that I lost half my arse Rolf, but it's a bit better now thanks. I've seen the Koop on TV since and yes, it does look a lot better in the same way that Stamford Bridge has been transformed. To be honest, being in the company of so many fascist, racist bone heads was the main reason for questioning my personal standards being amongst such scum and to see too many of them making a decent living (Cass Pennant, Bill Brimson and various other toe rags of society) now they've come out with the tired old criminal "rehab" like 'oh it was a Socially Historic' work and to watch idiots buying into their books and films with laddish portrayals from the likes of Danny Dyer (who seems to make a living solely out of this gutter shite) really sickens me when people are able to cash in on their low life past and vainly perpetuate it through so called"art". Anyway Rolf, back to Ajax..................maybe now they've got rid of the mickey mouse American Football could the club's home now not be personalized with red seating and the unique club emblem adorning the place? That would be a start, as it really does look an excellent venue to watch from in the time honoured tradition of Wembley, The Emirates and Old Trafford? A club like Ajax really need to be in such a venue in order to compete on an equal footing with Europe's best and their ethos of producing their own is a footprint for all clubs to follow (and many are) which is a real tribute to the founding traditions of the club - a club I hold the utmost respect for.

I actually prefer the way De Kuip looks to the Amsterdam Arena. The roof looks amazing. It was built in time for the Euro 2000 tournament and it gives it a nice retro feel. The ArenA looks great but I do prefer grounds with a bit more character to them. I remember how the Philips Stadion used to look like in the 1980's. If memory serves me correctly it used to be one bloody great grandstand and the rest was single tier. They were a damm good team in the late 1980's under Guus Hiddink boasting players such as Soren Lerby, Berry Van Aerle, Ronald Koeman, Eric Gerets, Hans Van Breukelen and Wim Kieft. Apart from these two I haven't had the chance to visit any other grounds in Holland. I think I'm right in saying that some clubs have moved to new grounds recently (Den Haag, FC Gronigen and AZ Alkmaar) and some of the others have had their grounds renovated (Heerenveen, FC Utrecht) and the rest seem to have had one or the other done in the last 10 years or so. (Sparta, NAC Breda, Roda JC, Vitesse Arnhem's very nice Gelodrome stadium with its removable pitch!) Sparta Rotterdam's (Het Kasteel) stadium looks like an interesting one to visit, I've always had a soft spot for the fantastically named Go Ahead Eagles of Deventer and VVV Venlo's ground looks interesting as well, with a couple of stands split in the middle with a nice grassy bank! I think I need to get another hobby. ;D

I went there on an Ipswich Town trip just for the craic and the experience..................that grandstand was awesome with overhead electric heating bars for the punters! On the other side the stand a resembled a big red and white deckchair from the street and if I remember correctly, that whole neighbourhood of Eindhoven is called "Phillipstown" or the Dutch equivalent. I've also seen the old Groningen ground on my travels, Volendam which is little more than a fishing village not far outside outside Amsterdam, and the one in the Hague; FC Den Haag - I believe Groningen and the Den Haag ones are now either gone or obsolete.

I'm impressed you all know so much about the Dutch stadiums and the clubs, I thought you're only interested in the English clubs. There are plans to give the Arena a more Ajax look, but it's complicated because it's not ours and they don't want the Ajax Look during other events like concerts. there are plans to change the seats, but that has to wait until the seats need to be replaced. also about the club emblem is lot going on, we want the old one back, it shows history, not the one we have now(11 simple lines stand for the 11 players on the pitch) the last couple of years the club became arrogant because we won some European prices, still that's no reason to be arrogant, (the reason we are the most hated club in Holland) we threw away our history our past, now a group of people trying to get it back, more ex players to coach our youth school etc., but also the old club emblem, but if & when that happens ?? Merse & Chris, you're both right with the new stadiums of Den Haag & Groningen, they both got new one's you have to hurry to see the old one of Go Ahead Eagles because they have also plans for a new one.........far from the town center @ Dave, how did you get the Ajax sign with my name ? could you please change it into the old one will send e-mail
