In typical "Pikey Mode" the CG's Technical Director will turn up late having completed his regular Saturday morning round of golf and thus miss the early league games in this annual tournament. However, if YOU want to be at the Douglas Eyre Sports Ground, Coppermill Lane E17 (nearest Tube/Overground ~ Blackhorse Road for ALL the action the lads kick off their opening game against TFC Dynamo (Tottenham Hotspur) at 11.20 followed by games with West Ham United at 12.10 and Shrewsbury Town at 12.35. No doubt all will go well until the bumbling buffoon decides to apply his technical genius for the knock out stages, but if by some chance the boys have let thoughts of Stella take priority....................Stella being the lager rather than the woman undressing in the bedroom window overlooking the practice area; then he won't be needed anyway! Quarter Finals, semi and final of the Cup and Plate competitions then follow and the social event this evening will be at the Birkbeck Tavern, Langthorne Road E10 (nearest tube Leyton) where players and supporters of other competing clubs such as the O's themselves, Queens Park, Southend United, Derby County, Birmingham City, Bristol Rovers, Oxford United, Celtic, Cardiff City and the Stratford Stompers will all struggle to maintain equilibrium, stay fully dressed and eventually leave for home with a matching pair of shoes on! It's a logistical nightmare for me to get there for the football what with Anthony's own football not finishing in Islington until 1pm. I might opt for the debauchery in E10 or I might head for Smithfield Market, EC1 for the City of London Elite Criterium also known as the Smithfield Nocturn of which the highlight is the professional city centre series race as seen on ITV 4. Crowds of around 8,000 annually turn up for this event where the evening's cycle racing tears around the outside of the magnificent old meat market and include a little steep cobbled loop around Snow Hill (around 1km circuit) amidst one of the coolest, most "chi chi" chill out drinking and eating venues in the capital, an area featuring such world renowned eateries such as St John's Restaurant, Smiths and Compter d' Gasgone if you've cash to flash or plenty of other little scoff boxes where one can top up the old belly for more modest outlay....................... AND some of London's finest old style pubs of course! Then there's the Derby to take in this after as well ~ either way, a great London weekend!

We had one of those events in Exeter recently as part of the Tour Series which, I guess, is a little down the food chain. A circuit of High Street, New North Road and Queen Street which made for good viewing from the splendid Dinosaur Cafe by the clock tower.

Proud to be a dinosaur and enthusiastically growing into the role with each passing year. If I can find a Herald Express in the newsagents on Queen Street I may head to the Dinosaur shortly. Better take some cash this time - cards not accepted - although last week they were happy enough for me to enjoy my meatballs and then find a cashpoint (and it's not as if I'm a regular either).

Can we please have a report on how the day went? The Technical Director isn't answering his phone which is a bad sign.....................either that or he was doing the ironing when I called and put the wrong bloody implement to his ear; so I'll check the local hospital. Mind you if his putting was a bit off on Saturday morning, he won't have got to the Douglas Eyre yet!

Well the news is that the TD is contemplating his future whilst pleading his innocence and absolving himself of responsibility for the worst ever performance of the CGs in this prestigious tournament.......................... Apparently he's been and done a "Leroy" and absented himself until all but the final whistle of the final game which turned out to be the "Wooden Spoon" Final in which the lads managed to score their one and only goal of the tournament to beat perennial Wooden Spoonists ~ the aged and decrepit Queens Park team who seemed to feature one or two of the veterans ( the late Charles Campbell and Wattie Arnott were both listed I hear) who actually appeared for the Spiders back in the days when they competed in the English F.A. Cup! Indeed the suspected lack of pace of the Sweaties' left back turned out to be a severe case of Rigor Mortise and it was during the twenty minutes of stoppage time added on to accomodate the deferential removal of his mortal remains from the field of play that the CGs managed to grab the single and face saving goal. I think the lack of a coherent youth policy (indeed also the lack of a coherent manager of any sort) has come to bite them on the bum and the side that in the past has not only won the coveted CHAOS Cup but also the Plate on numerous occasions is alas a spent force!

I think the lack of a coherent youth policy (indeed also the lack of a coherent manager of any sort) has come to bite them on the bum and the side that in the past has not only won the coveted CHAOS Cup but also the Plate on numerous occasions is alas a spent force! After winning the golf on Saturday morning - thought I should be able to see the CG's team in the quarter final of the Cup - or at least the Plate because the players are basically the same when we won the Cup 2 years ago and won the Plate last year. When I arrived CG's were in the semi-final of the wooden spoon - which they lost 1-0 against Orienteers Bitter and this meant we were in the Wooden Spoon final for the first time in our history - and it was going to be against our sweaty friends from Queens Park. According to the Management Duo of Mark Howarth and Mickey Ind - we did not manage to score a single goal in any of the games prior to the final - but did manage to hit the posts and crossbar a few times. We lost to TFC Dynamo (from Scotland) by a deflected goal (who lost in the Final to Southend)- we drew against Shrewsbury (who won the Plate) and lost to West Ham 1-0. We beat Queens Park 8-0 - I watched the whole game and we score - s'pose I better get their a bit earlier next year. We then went to the local boozer and watched the Aussies losing and England beating Kazakstan Then off to the Birkbeck for more beer and the footy quiz where we came 5th - 5 points behind the winners - Shrewsbury ( I think). If we had Merse, Capital Gull and Ealing Gull then I am sure we would have got those additional 6 points. We sank a few more beers, got congratulated by various teams because the Mighty TUFC got promoted and we all agreed that we will enter a CG's team next year, plus we will also be entering a CG's team for the Queens Park 25th Anniversary competition in Glasgow in June 2011 - after which we will definitely be a 'spent force'.

I'd better eat humble pie (I'm sure there's some left over from the Birkbeck) and accept the TB's report of the Wooden Spoon final over the second hand one I had used as the basis for my reprise. 8-0 against a side containing two corpses and a newly converted one is impressive indeed and the 2011 Queens Park "Bash" does look tempting, although I don't think I'll be going along to play (stand and point) at the age of 58! Could be another opportunity to entice Barty and Co on another heritage trail though, the West of Scotland Cricket Ground, the old "Bully Wee" at Shawfield and Cathkin Park beckon........................

Roll on the campaign where we get drawn in the same group as Isle Of Man, Rockall and Mont Saint Michel!!!!

It seems I was a tad hasty in my reply - I note that you were in the Asia Qualifying Group and not Oceania!! That said, I'd rather face Qatar,Bahrain and Uzbekistan over the more capable nations of Croatia, Belarus and Ukraine!!

The Director of Footie/Golf has been admirably straight in reporting our worst performance in chaos that anyone can recall (not difficult given the quaffing that goes on - in fact I'm surprised we haven't lost a few gulls along the way). Anyways, we were strangely berift of quality in front of goal & not as defensively rock solid as in the past hence disappointment by the bucket load. Nevertheless the organisers (Orienters) remain excellent hosts & we soon forgot we were shite (ever heard that before?)
