Great stuff Dave. I got in just in time to see Everton's goal hit the back of the net (after 25 seconds) this afternoon after proudly watching Anthony produce the goods in a four team tournament earlier in the day. Needing to win their final game (against the team they were chasing) by a four goal margin to lift the title on goals scored he hit an absolute screamer after a similarly brief period into the game to upset the opposition and went on to complete his hat trick in the required 4-0 victory, only to get absolutely flattened in an aeriel challenge and miss the end of the game with a sore head. Although he's now got a massive head ache to nurse, he's sitting here with the satisfaction of having a "gold" medal around his neck and the everlasting popularity with his team mates to sustain him. He's my little hero!

Note the presence of Dick Pym from Topsham in that Bolton team. He returned to the Exe after his football career - which included several England appearances - and lived to the age of ninety-five. There's a road named after him in Exeter not far from Middlemoor. It was pretty crowded in Dick's goalmouth at Wembley that day in 1923: It's Dick Pym on the right in this 1958 picture: It's quite a sporting estate in Exeter running off Grecian Way (Rydon Lane, incidently, is the old Exeter by-pass just south of Middlemoor). In the top left of the map you've Dick Pym Close and Cliff Bastin Close (named after the great pre-war Arsenal star from Heavitree). Varco Square is for Percy Varco - Exeter City, Torquay United (we sold him to Aston Villa in the 1920s) and mayor of Fowey - whilst Fred Whitlow and Reg Clarke were also Exeter players. Note the Test grounds: Headingley, Trent Bridge, Lords and the Oval. Can anyone think of anything like this in South Devon? I can't.
