There's a few "names" in that Cambridge side, isn't there?
Keith Bowker (later to be at TUFC), Alan Biley, Brendan Batson, the second Tom Finney and Steve Fallon who'd we much later encounter as manager of Histon (who'd have thought it?).

 Those programmes were printed on the club's own prinitng equipment in the Commercial Dept under the Grandstand. The press had been purchased to handle the considerable prinitnload for the weekly lottery competitions in the days before scratch off cards. The "Lotto" format was based on the Dutch National Lottery and was in fact copyrighted in the UK by Alex Jackson, the Commercial Manager of the time. Those covers though were pre-printed by a commercial printer ~ thousands of them ~ and were used as a "wrap around" with the up to date copy inserted inside. Hence there being no reference to the individual game in question being included on the front cover. The design was somewhat radical and drew some very unfavourable comments from (let's say) the "more reactionary" element amongst the readership! ;D

Is that a Dave Street programme cover design? He'd have still been popping back to Plainmoor from Norwich School of Art in those days.

It was indeed Barty.............................. Norman Jope was a bit of a "studenty type" too. Lived with his dad in Plymouth and as I recall used to cause havoc with some of his copy haivng to be re-written due to the libelous content and simply "unacceptability to the boardroom" tone of some of it. I think Neil Easton, quietly beavering away in the print room and re-jigging stuff was the real hero of the operation! |
