I know Barton Downs is keen to see some South Devon league programmes put in our programme room, so I have chosen the 1987/88 Herald Cup Final played on Good Friday 1st April 1988 at the Recreation Ground as Newton Abbot.

I chose this one as in the Pioneer league one I put up, there was an advert about the S.T.C Social Club at Paignton, who remembers going to dances at S.T.C.

This game was between Galmpton United and S.T.C Paignton, well a local derby then.

Thanks for this programme, Dave. Interesting to see Tony Bowker there who has managed a barrel load of clubs over the years. I've often wondered if he's related to Keith Bowker, the ex-Birmingham, Exeter and Torquay player - and also manager of Taunton Town? I reckon there's about ten years between their ages.

And what about the Herald final not being played on Good Friday in 2010? I'm sure there was something in the paper last week about the SDL being determined for it to be the final game of the entire season so - as a result of the weather - it's just been put back another week.

I played with Martin Breyley at Brixham Grasshoppers the season we won on Plainmoor against Torre Trojans. i think he scored both. He was a real talent but looks like he only went to Brixham Villa and Paignton, felt sure he would have made it into the league. He was certainly better than a young upstart in our club called Loram.

Carl Askew I think was at Grasshoppers as well
