This is an interesting programme from the Devon Bowl final played at Home Park on the 8th of May 1967. It just shows the interaction of players between the clubs at the time taking into account not only the line-ups as shown but also the additional biogs... Two of the Torquay team, as seen in the team list, went to play for Argyle within the year, Eric Burgess and Geoff Cox whilst Reg Wyatt had joined from them a couple of years previously. Fred Binney, of course, went on to play for all three Devon sides. And there are a few familiar names in the Plymouth line-up... The game ended in a 2-1 win for the Greens. Not sure who our number 11 Dryden was as he doesn't seem to appear in any records. Any ideas?

Two of the Torquay team, as seen in the team list, went to play for Argyle within the year, Eric Burgess and Geoff Cox..... I believe Cox went to Plymouth in the summer of 1967 specifically to lead the young team they had just entered in the Western League - not to be considered as a first team player. He can't have stayed very long because by the time of his benefit match against West Ham in May 1968 he was a Welton Rovers player. Burgess left Torquay in the close season of 1968 and spent two seasons at Argye playing a number of first team games before moving on to Colchester. Not sure who our number 11 Dryden was as he doesn't seem to appear in any records. Any ideas? Dryden was a left winger on trial from Chelmsford. He did play a first team game at Plainmoor - a friendly against Blackburn. I wonder who will be the first to find that programme for us to read.

I see Fred Easton is down as Argyle's "Public Relations Officer". Didn't we get some sterling off-the-field service from him and his sons?
I also note the pitiful attempt at listing Devon Professional champions. Somebody ought to have a proper go at that some day.
