A bit of a festive programme.... This is an interesting programme dated Boxing Day, 26th of December, 1968 but postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and finally played in front of over 15,500 on February 5th, 1969 resulting in a 1-0 win for the Greens. A number of features of this programme.... There's no manager listed, due to the fact that Frank O'Farrell had just left to take on the Leicester City job. Note the comments made about giving Leicester a Christmas present and the hope that our ties with that club would result in co-operation between the two of us. Did this actually transpire? Jack Edwards was in temporary charge. And anyone want work done in the home by Tom Northcott? Then how about the Supporters' Club receiving complaints about the 'obscene songs that are being sung in the mini stand', and how 'This is not nice for our lady supporters to hear so please refrain from this'. I am assuming because this has the date for the original match on it without it being overstamped that a new one was issued for the re-arranged game. If so how would the original get into circulation?

Thanks Leigh another very interesting programme, if a new one was issued for the later date, then I would not be surprised if timbo has it. Maybe the man who sells programmes at the club(has he been found a new place to operate from?) could have sold these at some point. I wonder what the chant was that was causing so much upset, I bet it did not have the c word in it.

Yes it was the same programme handed out at the re-arranged game I think with a small insert. In early October 1968 we had met in the league for the first time for a few years and won 2-1 at Home Park, Jimmy Dunne and Alan Welsh scoring. The Argyle manager at the time, I think Billy Bingham, announced that we would win the return at Plainmoor 'over his dead body' so the Boxing Day clash was eagerly anticipated. Disappointing when it was called off although when the re-arranged game was played he was still not allowed to forget the comments as Torquay supporters did a lap of the pitch with a coffin before the game. Mind you ... he who laughs last laughs longest ... we lost!!
Better ask merse about the supporters club programme notes as he was lead singer in the mini stand at that time!!! ;D

Better ask merse about the supporters club programme notes as he was lead singer in the mini stand at that time!!! ;D Mmmmmm yes, I got nicked by plain clothed Old Bill that game and unceremoniously hauled out the back and was somewhat surprised to discover "they" knew exaactly who I was, where I lived and who to tell................... My mum of course, for she worked at Torquay Police Station at the time as a process operative and they knew she would have a lot more to say to me than any farty old magistrate down at the courthouse. She wasn't best pleased to have to come and collect me from the police station at something like midnight, physically assaulted me in front of them (a clip round the ear, well more a fore arm smash over the head!) and gave my father grief for the next six months for not insisiting I stand with him and the other old moaners on the Popside....................I don't think he wanted me any where near him to be honest!

I wonder what the chant was that was causing so much upset Probably late 1960s favourites such as "I hear the sound of distant bums"
"If I had the wings of a sparrow"
"Where's your father, referee?"
"We all use a green and white pot"Any more?

Thanks Tim, so it was a completely new programme for when the game finally got played, seems there was some concern for trouble in the ground, but then there were in most grounds around that time.
