A challange for Bartondowns or anybody else. What were the half time scores? You can give me the full times as well if you like. Dont`t ask me,because I don`t know. Not sure if I'll rise to the complete challenge but, after Jon's tip about the MAD sites, it wouldn't take too much investigation to get the full-times (Argyle drew 1-1; Exeter won 2-1). We won 3-0 to move up to 4th - good times indeed!! - but we faded to finish 12th in time-honoured fashion....

The only name I recognise in that Chesterfield side is 'keeper John Osborne - then right at the start of his career - who went on to win an FA Cup winners medal with WBA in 1968.
There was a time when Chesterfield was associated with goalkeepers (by birth or affiliation): Osborne, Gordon Banks, Bob Wilson, John Lukic, Sam Hardy (going back a long time), Harold Gough (Sheffield United, Torquay United and England), Chris Marples (one of the last pro cricketers/footballers) - any others?

I have redone Timbo's images larger, so you can now read the contents of the programme much easier.

Another Torquay v Chesterfield programme for Felix to ponder whilst he's holidaying in the immediate vicinity of the scene on the front cover. But I fear he'll tell us that 1961 was just a little too early for him. It certainly was for me.
Read the notes of this programme carefully and you'll see there was some doubt about the game going ahead because of a possible strike by professional footballers. There's also old Eric recalling foggy trips to the north and the midlands but admitting he'd not seen anything like the conditions at Bury the previous week. Hopefully it'll be clear when the Sheffield Gulls head over the tops again.
