My first ever game at Torquay United - aged 9. Been following loyally ever since - no other team. John Rossiter later became a policeman and I was stationed with him in Plymouth. The legend Colin Bettany playing. A great memory. Thanks Timbo and incidentally, this cover format should be used today. Instantly recognisable as a Torquay United programme.

Ah, Tommy Flockett !! The Bradford City right back was without doubt the dirtiest player I have ever seen in 55 years of watching football.
This was a game which we dominated from start to finish and could have scored double figures, but the crowd was incensed throughout the match as time and again Ernie Pym was bundled off the ball unfairly, and in fact was sent crashing into the wire netting in front of the enclosure more than once.
This was an outstanding performance by Torquay, with Gordon Astall and Geoff Cox rampant on the right and Brian Handley, who played instead of Reg Jenkins, scoring twice with towering headers.
Those were the days, when my friends and I could watch the first half from what is now the away end, and then trot down to the cowshed to see all the action in the second half.
The need for segregation is, for me, one of the most regrettable changes which has taken place over the years. Because of the size of the popular side in those days, crowds at matches were more than double what they are now, and the atmosphere was a far cry from the childish and vulgar chanting we have to put up with now.
