If "quirky" grounds are your thing, then look no further than PRINCES PARK - home to DARTFORD FC of the Ryman Premier League.
This eco - friendly stadium really is a breath of fresh air in todays world of kit-form stands and industrial estate-like, out of town locations that we've had to get increasingly accustomed to.
This ground has won plaudits far and wide for its eco friendly stance and cutting edge design.
Features at Princes Park include:
Grass roofs on all stands;
A self sustaining drainage / pitch watering system (fed by an adjoining pond);
Wooden clad buildings - for increased insulation, and finally,
A 5.5 metre high wooden figure which "supports" the roof on one side of the stadium.
Dartford FC played their first competitive match here in the Ryman League on Saturday, 11th November 2006 - a 4-2 win over Horsham YMCA, watched by an impressive 4100 fans.
Crowds continue to be large at Princes Park ( this season for instance, the average gate after only 3 league games is over 1200) - and that's in a league where most teams are lucky to see 450 through the turnstiles!!
If you fancy a visit to Princes Park, ticket prices are very good value and are as follows:
Adults - £10, Concessions - £5, Young Adults(14-17 yrs old) - £5 and Under 13's - £1.
And if you think that the wooden figure is surreal, then just wait until the "pizza delivery" woman starts walking around the terraces with her heated bag full of deep pan delights!!
Here (FINALLY!!) are my pictures from Princes Park, taken during pre season, last year.
