I do have to agree with the views about the lack of any player on the bench you felt could come on and offer anything in the game. . and yet PB has constantly said that he will only bring in players that improve what we have already got! Mills, Williams Rendell (who only played yestrday because of Sills injury) have all been brought in but not deemed good enough to start - so why are they here? Sills injury? Thats a new one I thought he was suspended! |

Much better performance on Saturday than the last game I saw, Grimsby.
Unfortunately, it's the same old, same old from Mr Buckle, in the interview quoted from the OS.
If he felt that the team paid Bury too much respect and stood off them, and should have been raining shots down on their goal, then why the hell didn't he convey this from the technical area instead of standing there with arms folded and only speaking up after the game ?
We seem to be getting it together now because the team is becoming more settled, but Mr Buckle's influence on tactics is the one thing which is still putting grave doubts in my mind.

Hmmm, I think that said player (I'm assuming that you're talking about the player that we have been chasing for ages - I worked it out by deduction!) would just be what the footballing doctor ordered! Something that drove things forward would be a real bonus and would give some real options. There was something missing today (even though I felt we competed very well and we didn't fail to win becase of lack of effort). There wasn't so much on the bench that could change the game for us - although the players on the pitch picked things up in the second half. On his day Williams would be a very useful asset - but his last couple of performances have been underwhelming and perhaps he is very low on condfidence. Having the opportunity to be able to move in the transfer market is encouraging - even though I don't believe that there can feasibly many rolls of the dice yet on that front after this next move. On an aside - Charnock and Todd are surely going to have to bide their time to get back the starting spots that they will believe they deserve. The form of Robertson and Ellis is one of the most encouraging developments so far this season. I had the same feeling in the second half. I was thinking to myself "come on Bucks, make a change" and then I scanned the bench and thought "best not". The Bury match was my first home game of the season and the first match since Burton away. My thoughts were that we're not a bad side but we're lacking that little bit of pace, guile, composure and quality in the most important areas. We're solid enough at the back, although Nico looks a bit more exposed than last year (although Bury did switch to an attacking 4-2-4 at one point). Wroe isn't getting involved enough, when he should be running games and Greavsie isn't quite getting close enough to disrupt the opposition midfield enough but I don't know if that's fitness or age related or down to the better class of opposition. Maybe its a little of each. I agree, I think Ellis deserved the MOM award but I thought Robertson and Rendell ran him close. I was quite impressed with Rendell. Quite mobile, quite strong and he has a decent touch. Benyon had an awful first half but was better in the second half. Stevens likewise. Transfer targets. A ball winning midfielder, a decent left winger who can cross a ball without getting knocked off the ball by the force of a chaffinch's fart and a decent striker who isn't made of ornate glass. A right and left back would be nice as well in due course. I though the left footed Bury right back looked half decent. The Dennis Irwin of League 2? Although Dennis was right-footed and played on the left of course. It was also nice to meet Dave R, Barton D and Chelstongull before the match. You didn't talk too much Dave. |
