I know Jon really wanted to see these and many thanks to Peter Godfrey for sending them to me, below is what Peter put in his email to me.Hi Dave ! Here are the programmes for the FA Youth cup matches between Spurs and TUFC. They were just single sheet and are a little fragile now. One of the interesting things about them is the price of season tickets ! My dad wrote in team changes ! The first match at Plainmoor ended 1-1, so we replayed at the Rec. I don't recall if there was a match programme - I certainly haven't got one. Anyway, it was 0-0 this time, though Spurs had a penalty for handball; I took it and scored but the ref hadn't blown so he ordered it to be re-taken. This time I put it wide but he ordered it to be re-taken yet again, because the keeper moved, I think. This time our skipper, Eddie Stentiford, possibly acting on instructions from Bill Anderson, told Mike Courtier to take it, probably thinking I was a nervous wreck by now ! Anyway, Mike put it wide too so it was back to Plainmoor again. This time we won 2-1, with goals from Russell Dore and Mike Courtier, to land ourselves a tie at Yeovil, the old Huish ground, slope and all. We won 2-1 again, but I can't remember much about the game, including the scorers. Then we were home to Bournemouth and perhaps a bit unlucky not to win. I remember hitting the bar with a cross. Again I'm not sure there was a match programme. So we went up to Dean Court for the replay. I seem to remember Bournemouth took this seriously and strengthened their side, possibly with a couple of apprentices. They duly won 3-0 and the Spurs management treated us all to fish and chips on the way home ! I do have the programme for this game and can send it if you wish. So you know where I am - I wonder where the other guys are now !!

A fish n' chip win bonus eh Pete! Just a few years later things weren't quite so luxurious and it had reduced to a Cornish Pasty in Lostwithiel (excellent though they always were!) on the way home from locations like Penzance, Nanpean and Wadebridge ~ although come to think of it we never won anywhere, so they weren't "win bonuses" ;D Some interesting names to relate to: The referee for the first programme, Jack Bricknell; had become a cantancerous and pedantic Football League assesor by the time I worked at Plainmoor and one of his linesmen (Frank Harris) was the father of Spurs' no 7 Keith Harris in the second programme and later became Spurs club secretary. Keeper Mike Trout (although on the short side) played for both Torquay United and Exeter City with distinction. Torquay United no 9 in the second programme is current club director Brian Palk...................who said football directors know nothing about football? I remember following that Spurs cup run as a schoolboy in the days when some of those evening games at the Rec (no floodlights mind you) drew much larger crowds than regular Saturday First Team games and I think I can remember also some FA Cup matches against Barnstaple Town and Falmouth Town into the bargain............................would they have been in the same season? The Rec was certainly a breeding ground for good football talent in those days and what an expansive and excellent playing surface for the youngsters to express their skills on!

That was Penn Inn Close and Jane and Les met at a social following a United friendly out at Kingsteignton Athletic. Her and my first wife were class mates at Highweek (well when Angie could be arsed to actually turn up at school) and funny enough her father Horace and my dad played football together at Newton Corries. Les and I were good buddies what with me ferrying him and Steve Cooper up and down to the Black Country some weekends. Good times and nice people

That was The Maltsters Arms in Clyst St Mary, near the roundabout to either go on to Sidmouth or right to Exmouth & Budleigh. And the final scene in my 'I injured Steve Cooper' story posted some time back...

Jane and Les met at a social following a United friendly out at Kingsteignton Athletic. That would be 2 May 1978 then. Big Les scored a hat-trick - in the match, I mean. I don't know what went on at the "social".

Which is why Les Lawrence was at a birthday party I went to when I was 6 or 7 years old. The Congdons used to live up the road from us in Abbotskerswell and Les turned up at Phil's daughter Emma's birthday party. I went to Primary School with Emma. It's quite a small world. Les very kindly was very patient with my football questions. Does he still live in south devon?
