..not quite as big as torquay united reserves inflicted on poor old paulton in i believe the 1955-56 season. the scoreline being 16-0 played in the western league, possibly torquays biggest score in their history. not even sure if it was home or away. i recall harold dobbie, then a veteran centre forward getting a hatful, possibly 6 or 7.

Paulton's entry in the Non League Directory doesn't include a "record defeat" and I'd like to help our performance into this year's edition (if indeed it's Paulton's worst result). Unfortunately there isn't a "record victory" either so I guess it would be churlish to concentrate on the negatives. Paulton's biggest victory, Jon?

Paulton's biggest victory, Jon? I haven't a clue. Have you thought of asking Bill Luscombe? He probably wouldn't have a clue either, but that wouldn't stop him giving a seemingly authoritative answer. I see he had forgotten the record win over Torquay Tramways - someone might just have nailed the date and the score. As for the big losses, I am very dubious about the "Paignton team" thrashing the reserves. The 10-0 thrashing at Fulham was actually a 10-2 thrashing and was followed up by an identical score at Luton two years later. The Centenary History claims them both as 2-0 wins! He has also missed an 11-0 thrashing at Newport on 1 June 1940, although in fairness most minds were focused on something more important than football - the evacuation of Dunkirk. We might have had some difficulty finding our way to Newport - I bet we wish we hadn't! That was the very day that all the road signs were taken down to avoid helping the swarms of Nazi parachutists who were expected to lay the ground for the invasion.
